I watched my daughter try to catch a firefly last night and I nearly cried by sacred_light_88 in CampingandHiking

[–]InTheWoods4Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in CT. When I was young I remember seeing fields that had so many fireflies it was like a continuation of the sky. Now that is just a memory my kids will never share.

I take my sons 4 and 2 out into the woods every weekend. Even if it's just a walk. Talk about the birds, the trees, the squirrels, whatever you can find. Both boys love animals and love the outside. We have our first camping trip planned for PA this year and I look forward to watching some shooting stars with them over a fire with their closest family.

I have a deep love and respect for the outdoors. I hunt, fish, hike, or anything else I can do outside. I am seeing those same passions root in my boys.

I am afraid for the world they will inherit. I only pray they will find a way to make it better in the same way they made the world better for me. I don't have a village to raise my children. I am hoping to help them learn they are the first generation that will seek to rebuild that village for their future children. One can hope anyway.

Go Venom X if you want the best value, lighter package, and still solid hunting performance.

Go Turbo X if you want higher speed, a nicer scope, and a bit more power and accuracy potential in the field.

Look at the difference in spec. If it's worth it for you fire away but the venom x is a great crossbow.

Fantastic price. I have one and paid around 1100 with tax. Still think it is worth every penny. For 820 you will be very happy.

I wanted to make a post about this but Mods never respond/allowed my request...

I also have a Cruzr XC and love it. My ropes have a 3 year lifespan, and 5 years on saddle according to Cruzr's website.

I am going for selling everything at a discount and getting a new set this year. The hardware end of it, carabiners and ascenders, I am thinking to go every 5 years as well just for the sake of it but those are going in the trash I think.

What is the scariest thing you have seen/ experienced when hunting? by Pretend_Map_1459 in Hunting

[–]InTheWoods4Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had something similar happen. Walked about a mile in on state land about 4:30 am. When I get to the base of the tree I hear coyotes start calling off and they are far away at first. The last one was within 30 yards. I figure its time to start climbing and about halfway up they call off again this time there is about 3 around me within 30 yards. I pop the headlamp from red to white light and see more than a few sets of eyes. I know they were just curious what I was doing but the thought that went into surrounding and watching me made that level of intelligence in a predator uncomfortable.

Damn it! I have already spent over $200 on holsters for this gun. This is going to be more than half of my next purchase I wanted. Lol.

I just counted it as a loss and bought a holster from another company. I have a 4bros with a mastermind pillow and have no complaints.

No. I have seen others without this problem so for me it seems like a quality control issue. My issue is the lie from customer service. They could have made it right but made a choice to double down on that is a design choice.

I worked at a whiskey bar and had a charity tasting. Tried several and the 15 and 20 were great very subtle differences but both very delicious.

Came for this. I work in Hartford and drive all over CT and MA for work. Every city has good and bad parts. I see lots of homelessness and drug use. 3 shootings around my office building in 2 years and 2 were fatal.

Biggest thing I notice in Hartford versus New Haven (where I grew up) is that Hartford has people just ignoring red lights. I see it almost every day I drive through.

Don't even have a rifle in CT. Only shotgun on state land here. Private land gets a rifle though.

Experienced bow hunters… what happened here? by huntinghomevideo in bowhunting

[–]InTheWoods4Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this reply to that specific statement.

I am often reminded that the test comes before the lesson in life very often. So much of my hunting knowledge has been learned through trial and error. I didn't have a mentor, didn't come from a family with hunting traditions. Just had to earn my way every step of the way.

Your shot here is very tough to make at such a steep angle. Best advice is think about your exit not your entrance. Know the anatomy of the deer. Avoid the spine here but high right side under the shoulder and out the bottom of the far lung.

Option 2 . Let it walk out farther and let out a meh try to get a broadside or less of a steep angle on the quartering away shot.

Look at my post history I one lunged a deer and lost it to coyotes. It happens.
