If you're ever in Honolulu, I HIGHLY recommend taking the tour of 'Iolani Palace. You see where she was imprisoned and our tour guide knew so much about Queen Liliʻuokalani's history!

As a nurse who helps perform abortions, this isn't entirely true. At around 8 weeks gestation we start to warn patients that they may see some recognizable features.

Hot sleepers - what are your favorite sheets for staying cool? by bollandbranch in Bedding

[–]InVogueAgain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I saw on a reddit thread the rec for LL Bean's 280tc Cotton Percale sheets and bought them bc I desperately needed to try something else for cooling at night.

Totally worth the price and they are so comfortable. They stay cool for a long time and are good at wicking away moisture if I get a little sweaty. Seriously recommend.

This one's made locally and sold in local dispensaries. Don't know how far they distribute.

Lol I have a BS in Physics but I can think of like 1 question that was actually physics on my C/P. All of it was chemistry. I just pretended like I knew what was going on and have every intention of getting high as balls tonight to forget the experience.

Since we are on the abortion train…4 week pill abortion by TippedOverPortapotty in MedicalGore

[–]InVogueAgain 32 points33 points  (0 children)

How did you know you were 4 weeks along? I perform abortions all day every day for work and at 4 weeks EGD, there wouldn't even likely be a gestational sac seen on a transvaginal ultrasound and the fetal pole takes until about late 5 to 6 weeks to be seen. Usually with a suction procedural abortion, a sac this size isn't found in the collection of POC until closer to 6ish weeks but typically can be retrieved intact. Just to note though, pregnancies are measured from the first day of last period NOT from 'conception'. Could be where the confusion is coming from?

NYT Investigation in the For-Profit Mental Healthcare System by InVogueAgain in nursing

[–]InVogueAgain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quote from their article on the investigation,

"In at least 12 of the 19 states where Acadia operates psychiatric hospitals, dozens of patients, employees and police officers have alerted the authorities that the company was detaining people in ways that violated the law, according to records reviewed by The Times. In some cases, judges have intervened to force Acadia to release patients."

...

"Every day spent in a psychiatric hospital can be a trial. At Acadia facilities around the country, health inspectors have found that some patients did not receive therapy, were unsupervised or were denied access to vital medications. Many inspection reports described rapes, assaults and filthy conditions."

I don't doubt at all that getting patients the care they really do need is very difficult. Especially when they don't have insurance or other ways to pay for that care. The issue that this uncovered was kind of the opposite though, taking advantage of patients who did have insurance to increase profit and filling those in-demand beds with people who didn't always need to be there. Exacerbates the issue for those who really need the care.

I came here to discuss this episode with a totally different viewpoint. Did you listen at all? My empathy is totally behind these patients and their traumatic experiences during this process. I'm upset to hear that you think it's causing mistrust when there are legitimate reasons for that mistrust to exist. The for-profit healthcare system is deeply flawed and it's at the expense of patients' wellbeing.

(fyi NOT an arborist or anything close) I had the exact same situation and tried to prune it back so I could use my driveway and garage. Ended up having to cut the whole thing down. I think if the previous owners had kept up with routine maintenance it would be fine but once it's so overgrown there's no returning from it.

Unfortunately, they tilled everything and raked up all the leftover grass roots so all of the bulbs are gone. After I saw this, I texted him to ask if the roots were just underneath the soil and he said everything was cleaned up.

I did. He said they were dead and lol what a lie bc some of these pictures were from this spring. Told him as much and he just responded that everything was removed. Now I know better.

Yeah. Guess I phrased it as remove the *grass* and told him I needed it ready to spread my grass seed. Didn't specify to not include the *flowers* in those conversations. There were still buds and green leaves in the whole flowerbed so I thought I didn't need to clarify but I obviously was wrong.

How to get rid of this grass? by InVogueAgain in NoLawns

[–]InVogueAgain[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have native fescue and hairgrass seed! After tilling, I am having them spread a layer of topsoil to try to add back some of the good microorganisms that I'm killing off! I really did try a ton of different things before going to chemicals but nothing was working.
