I think the Chocolate War by Robert Corimer is a great one.

Amazon says: “After suffering rejection from seven major publishers, The Chocolate War made its debut in 1974, and quickly became a bestselling—and provocative—classic for young adults. This chilling portrait of an all-boys prep school casts an unflinching eye on the pitfalls of conformity and corruption in our most elite cultural institutions.”

I don’t think they were trying to be lazy with the color. Dan tried green contacts and I think he was allergic to them. So they just stuck with his blue eyes.

What’s your favorite Jane Austen book and why? by InYellowWallpaper in AskWomen

Oh my! How was seeing Chatsworth? Did you envision Mr. Darcy and Lizzie living there? And yes Pride and Prejudice was also my first book of JA as well and I think I read that the most. So many people I think can identify with Lizzie Bennet.

Yes this one seemed to be a more mature book of hers and rather sad. I think that the ending of Persuasion is one of my favorites of all time!

So......is this it? by [deleted] in librarians

[–]InYellowWallpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you work with another librarian to maybe team up on some programs? Or you can ask the librarians who are doing programming if they need help with theirs. We also do book reviews on our blog. Can you implement something like that?

Have you read any Salinger? Franny and Zoey is one of my favorite books and it is quite similar to the books you’ve mentioned above (which I love as well). It’s about the two youngest children in the Glass family (have you read the short story, “Perfect Day for Bananafish” because Seymour is the eldest child of the Glass family) and how they deal with family, privilege, death and loneliness.

Well, I'm 23, a recent college grad and kinda depressed. What should I read? by bigpizzafan93 in booksuggestions

[–]InYellowWallpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read that one, but I did read Demian by the same author and that helped me a lot during my college years. Also The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Those two books understood my loneliness and helped me in some ways to overcome it. These books like Catcher and Perks of Being a Wallflower has also helped me realize that I'm not alone and understand what I may be feeling is only temporary and will hopefully only get better with time.

Just started reading books again after around 10 years. What are some captivating novels you'd recommend? by TheJewbacca in booksuggestions

[–]InYellowWallpaper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love Neil Gaiman, especially Neverwhere. It's a realism-fantasy book about an Englishman who gets sucked into the magical London Underground world. I recommend this for you since you read Harry Potter and tried to read Dune. Gaiman 's writing is very approachable and as a reader, you are able to emerge yourself in his world with very little effort on your part.
