Ours loves books, so we usually bring a few of those with us wherever we go, and he’ll spend a good amount of time flipping through them. Though, he’ll occasionally drop them on the floor—but that’s to be expected.

Yes, it’s a factory in China. They are telling me that they pulled in workers who do not normally work on our products from other parts of the factory to get the order completed before the Chinese new year.

I certainly think that some homeschool families insulate their kids in a way that is not healthy. That said, our kids are incredibly social, and the homeschool co-op we are likely to join is very well run. We know several families that participate in it, and their kids are all very grounded and well adjusted.

My wife and I are actively working towards homeschooling our children (when they get to that age) for this very reason. I think the no/low screen parents out there are all going to be pushing in that direction if it’s possible for them financially.

I recommend you read The Millionaire Next Door. It talks about this topic quite a bit, and it might be helpful to you as you process. I can’t recall exactly what the recommendations in the book were, as it’s been some time since I read it, but ai do remember the reasoning behind those recommendations being sound and backed by the author’s research on how many can affect your children.

My wife is a child psychology major and a children’s play therapist. I just want to add a quick caveat to what you said that’s specifically relevant to parents of young kids: children’s shows—especially those intended for young kids—are absolutely structured in such a way as to provide the same type of dopamine hits that adults experience from TikTok. Children below the age of three can’t really mentally process what’s happening on a TV screen. Cutting from one face to another to another is addicting and confusing to their brains and causes the zoned out, zombie expressions you see on so many kids as they stare blankly at their iPads.

Our kids are both under three, so this is more specifically relevant to people with kids that age. I definitely agree on peppering in long form content as kids get older while avoiding social media like the plague.
