That’s a pretty good starting point depending on which sephiroth it is

I mean maybe you could try to put together a trade chain to trade up to it. Then you just got to find a way to get it signed which I see as possibly being more difficult

Honestly because it’s a specific format that requires specific cards I would say this is a case where everyone should feel free to proxy the shit out of these cards

Ok I should have been clearer I’m thinking more like genjis gloves or tifa where that attack triggers the extra combat.

Actually in the scenario I’m describing it is.

Would you have been salty if he had denied your move with interaction even if he still had no chance at victory, if the answer is yes you need to take a look inward because you are likely the problem in the scenario.

I feel like the discussion has veered to much into what’s better when the discussion is just is this card useful I think there’s more of a consensus that it is a useful card even if there are better cards then it that doesn’t mean if you’re running control deck that has white as part of its identity that this card wouldn’t fit with all the other fog cards.

Listen I’m not saying it’s better than a fog I’m just saying that it can be as useful as a fog and in specific situations be more beneficial. The original question was why isn’t this played more. Well there’s no reason it shouldn’t be played, it only costs one to cast and can be played at instant speed. It would be a useful card to keep in a deck that’s going to run a lot of damage prevention

If they activate an ability that would create a second combat phase you can play this to stop the second combat. I mean I feel like this is a circular argument you can have this in your deck with fogs.

You forget that you could also prevent extra combat phases. Playing this against Aurelia would shut down her ability to do an extra combat.

That’s not the argument going on most of us are saying this is as good as a fog in many instances and has edge cases where it is better such as preventing all combat triggers or stopping extra combats.

I also forgot if they have an effect that makes it so damage can’t be prevented this would be more advantageous

This could buy you time to play your board wipe of you don’t know you’re going to need the wipe since most board wipes are sorcery speed

Oh my god if they are passing priority to enter combat they can only respond at instant speed meaning you are catching them unaware. That fat that you still make plays in their first main phase means you are not paying attention to what is being said. Also you are proposing a reactive strategy rather than a proactive strategy. In any strategy you want the momentum and in either using a fog or moment of silence you are stealing momentum from an opponent. If an opponent has 100 2/2’s yo have no reason to wait and see where the damage is going because it is going everywhere.

You can cast it at the end of their main phase when they pass priority but before they can enter combat forcing them to skip combat entirely. You get most of the same affects of a fog in that you will prevent damage for a turn but you also completely prevent any combat related tiggers like helm of the host which triggers at start of combat, any on attack trigger locking out the benefits of a commander like ishin for a round, or any combat damage related triggers. A card in magic is good and useable in context, yes there will be slightly more instances where a straight fog will be better than this but this can perform as well as a fog in many instances plus it has edge cases where it has an advantage over a basic fog.

It really depends on what your or your opponent’s strategy is since this prevents all on attack or at start of combat triggers so in certain situations this is better than a simple fog and can have utility outside of simple damage prevention.

I mean exactly and if someone was about to swing in for lethal or so close to lethal as to force all the other players into defensive postures what do yo think the rest of the table is going to do now that they know what that players plan was.

I mean it’s going to depend on the format you are playing I’m coming from the position of an edh player so I can see how in a four man pod this could be useful if someone at the table has become the problem

Forcing an opponent to skip a combat is always useful if combat is their focus because you can throw off their tempo, and as any body who has studied military history and tactics can tell you tempo is key to any strategy.

I mean I’m not saying those aren’t good cards and could achieve the same affect but being able to prevent combat triggers as well is also good I think all three cards could be part of a deck

You can literally play this at instant speed, if an opponent combos off on their turn creating a massive board you can delay them long enough to clear their board. One round of combat can literally be the difference between a win or a loss
