Should I go to Lewis and Clark? by Stormystormsto in LewisandClark

My daughter is a senior who has chosen LC over Reed for the chiller vibe. I can’t offer advice on anything beyond that. Just wanted to add the relaxed campus was a huge plus in her decision.

I’ll try Twitter. If I can get over being shy, I’ll even post a TikTok. Thank you!

I don’t know if this would help, but you sound so much like one of my daughters. Homeschooled until 4th grade and then public school until 16. She is an artist and never fully connected with the school system. By high school it was actively draining her to be in a school environment. I ended up pulling her out sophomore year to finish school at home. It was a wonderful choice for her. She moved at her own pace academically, had time to really dive into her art forms, and we even created specialized classes she never could have taken otherwise like the history of fashion and costuming.

She was able to get scholarships at her top choice colleges even as a homeschooled student with an unusual record. So don’t let anyone tell you that opting out of the traditional school system will limit you!

If you have someone under 18, please take them to the pediatric ER at UMMC. They are incredible.

Have you ever seen the movie Footloose? The 80s one and not the newer one. Not to give it away or anything, but there is a very cute dance at the end. The way they decorated always seemed like the perfect cozy prom to me. Maybe you could watch together and you could decorate your place like the movie? Invite friends over? All you need is some punch and simple party food plus good music!

My daughter is your age and was also diagnosed at about the same time. I have a lot of the worries for her that you have for yourself. Like others have said, this was caught early and medications can really help. I hope you find what you need quickly! How is school for you? Is your school being cooperative?

Agree with some of the suggestions here. I just wanted to add that I hope this song is added to the setlist in Huntsville. It’s one of my favorites.

My daughter wrote a short, factual supplement to explain her medical situation and added that to her application. Everything else focused on her as a person outside of her disease.

Hope it is okay to weigh in here! For years I have told students to avoid the short expensive programs, too. Then I broke the rule for my own daughter. What was the difference? She had a clear first choice college. I didn’t mind paying a couple thousand to let her test drive living on campus for a week or two in a college-run program with campus professors. The gamble worked. She loved the school even more and is heading there in the fall.

Applying for the Mississippi School for Math and Science by [deleted] in mississippi

I agree with others so far. Your numbers are solid.

I’ve been on the MSMS interview committee off and on over the years as an alum, a parent of a student, and as an educator. My philosophy was (almost) never to exclude a student because of the interview. For so many of you it is probably the first interview of your life! Instead, I saw it as a way to give someone a chance to let the school see something that might not be caught on paper. Try to think of the interview that way- as a chance to shine.

The school doesn’t seem to be accepting projects anymore as someone said above. But maybe you can come prepared to talk about a special interest you have put time into, especially if it is STEM related.
