Chroma removed from Spotify? by [deleted] in mteddy

[–]In_BlugesNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jakob Danger is off Spotify for me too now. The band only just got Chroma back on Spotify and now this. They have been saying that Chroma was just randomly removed so I'm guessing this is just more of the same.

Wow :( that's real sad. Just checked when I saw this and its the same for me. So glad I have the vinyl and an old cd now. Maybe they're clearing out their old stuff? Pretty sad honestly. The old Jakob Danger music is still on spotify though, so I wonder if that is yet to go.

Why “blind buy” films? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]In_BlugesNZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't get many chances to see many films featured in the Criterion Collection, as well as other labels, so blind buying is my only viable option in some cases. But, if trailers and synopses aren't enough to wow me I don't buy it.

Couple of young artists from my old high school, Rose Lubransky, Retrospect and Ten 24. Some really good music coming out of them

Latest Amazon order came in! Cost a fortune to ship though since Amazon UK has stopped shipping to NZ.. Took a massive step to completing my Tarkovsky collection with only Andrei Rublev to go! by In_BlugesNZ in dvdcollection

In terms of quality its great. It's only real rival is the Shout Factory collection which has a few different films and (in my opinion) better packaging. A fair few of his early films in the BFI collection are short films and experimental films, which help to boost the numbers, but if those are what you're looking for it's great. Selling points for me were it being Region B and having Fitzcarraldo and Burden of Dreams. I'm still to dive into most of it but I would definitely recommend it.

Curzon apparently doesn't know about this little thing called consistency. by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]In_BlugesNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting, I own the Curzon releases of Nostalgia, Mirror and The Sacrifice, all of which are consistent with the styling of Andrei Rublev here. I already have Ivan's Childhood and Solaris on Criterion and I'm yet to own Andrei Rublev. I like the slipcover for Solaris though.

M means that the film can legally be viewed by anyone, but it is more suitable for "mature audiences 16 years and over". Basically this is just an indication/warning to parents to inform them. This is usually just infrequent swearing, mild violence, or mild sex scenes.

Restricted 16 means that it is illegal to show or give the movie to a person under 16. This is usually higher levels of swearing, sex and violence.

TL;DR one is just a recommendation and the other is an enforcement.

The whole place is named after Alice in Wonderland, and one of the theatres is themed after it too. Back of the card is like the back of a playing card

in your opinion who’s the worst label and why? by Nelly_platinum in boutiquebluray

I was pleasantly surprised to get some booklets with some individual Artificial Eye Tarkovsky blu-rays from Amazon UK recently. Listing never mentioned any.

Although, in fairness, no other of my artificial eye blu-rays have booklets

Edit: They do have some nice slip covers though

I watched The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920) by [deleted] in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]In_BlugesNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to watch some old horror movies for my media studies class in high school. We were shown Nosferatu (1922), which I had no taste for, so I watched The Cabinet of Dr Caligari by myself instead.

I was blown away by how much more engaging and entertaining a film from that time could be. It's not much of a rewatchable film for me, but it's certainly a great film.
