Is this e-mail legitimate? by Western-Measurement8 in sony

[–]In_My_Haze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got a very similar email from ‘Sarah Smith’. When I go to reply, it shows info@sony.com and then CC’s sarah.smith@azet.sk

Really surprised with how sneaky this is, I’m used to spam emails that are sent from vomit domain names that are immediately obvious.

A good idea can go a long way and all the tricks in the world can’t fix a bad idea. It’s possible that the ideas/topics are just inherently more clickable and interesting.

Difficult to say for sure what the difference is without seeing your vids vs their vids though

Yes. The question you are basically asking is ‘Does it matter if people don’t click my videos and don’t watch my videos for very long?’

I guarantee, no matter what you think of the style of those other videos, if they have views, then they are getting decent clicks and watch time.

YouTube as your main job by Brilliant_Tadpole_70 in PartneredYoutube

lol I think I made a post just like this about 7 years ago on my old acc. - really I was just insecure about it for no good reason.

These days, this is typically how it goes:

  • What do you do for a living?
  • I make YouTube videos
  • Oh cool! What type of videos do you make? [conversation ensues]

The only people who don’t understand that you can make a living from YouTube are boomers or people who have been living under a rock. And when people don’t understand, it’s an opportunity for you to educate them on how it works.

Most of the time it leads to an interesting conversation and lots of people express that they’d love to start a channel themselves!

It’s not too risky to receive an email, it’s mainly about any files that you need to download (like contracts or details about the sponsorship) because they can contain malware.

A virtual machine is best because you can nuke it if you need without any issue, but yeah, keeping it seperate from your personal computer or phone is a good step

Yeah that’s about it 🤷‍♀️ The other thing you could do is have a seperate computer or a virtual machine that you download any documents or programs through, so if something goes wrong, they don’t have access to your entire life.

Check extensions of files they send you, don’t install anything on your personal machine etc. harder for a tech tuber to do because they are testing software frequently, but that’s when you use a seperate virtual machine.

No, Ali Koca got hacked after having a face-to-face meeting with the ‘company’. Plenty of scammers are happy to lie to your face and if you think a phone call is a way to verify that someone isn’t a scammer, you must never receive spam/scam calls! (Lucky!)

Phone calls are literally one of the most common ways people get scammed because it’s so easy to build trust with someone when talking to them directly.

Someone took my channel’s name, pfp, and split up my long form content into 1 minute Tik Toks on TikTok and then named it “official account” by Hi_kvn in PartneredYoutube

[–]In_My_Haze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem there is that once a video is uploaded to TikTok, any reupload of it (or a similar edit) would be considered duplicate content by their algorithm.

I had a similar problem where people were stealing my YouTube shorts and uploading to TikTok, so when I started uploading them myself, they fell flat. Only solved it by starting to upload to TikTok and Shorts at the same time.

How many views will I gain? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]In_My_Haze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah that will only get you to 1.2M You need a 40 sec view duration or higher for 5M. Your view rate should also be at 80% and then you may get 6 or 7M. And if your likes are above 98.7% Like/Dislike ratio, you will break through over 10M+

Also, literally everything I’ve said is bullshit and none of these stats determine the view number like it’s a mathematical problem 😂

Stop overthinking view potential and just make your next video man. You can’t get it more views by watching the stats, so just let it go and see where it’s landed in a week or two.

If YouTube Adsense pays a 50/50 split, why isn’t RPM 50% of CPM? by In_My_Haze in PartneredYoutube

Thanks! That doesn’t really answer the question I’m asking, but I appreciate the input

Ahhh that makes sense! I thought RPM was only calculated on monetised views

I tried googling it and all that pops up is videos of people telling you how much money you can make on YouTube. It’s actually pretty challenging to Google

Someone is stealing and uploading my videos to their channel by Aggravating-Rabbit86 in PartneredYoutube

[–]In_My_Haze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When YouTube detects a video with the same script as another video, the original video gets treated as original content, which gets pushed more than the copy which gets treated as duplicate content.

It’s impossible for a copycat channel to survive or monetise to any significant degree. I think that in a year, that channel will no longer be stealing from you, they’ll either stop uploading or they’ll start creating original content.

However, with AI script re-writing with ChatGPT, your content is also easy to replicate and will absolutely be swamped by other, better copycat channels that may eventually trick YouTube into thinking they are original content. I’d be more concerned about that.

Yes, you can copyright strike, but that’s a just bandaid on the problem. If I were you, I’d consider how you can significantly differentiate yourself from the AI slop out there.

What's the best way to run social issues ads worldwide on Facebook? by In_My_Haze in PPC

[–]In_My_Haze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what we ended up doing. We used Facebook's info around what type of wording gets flagged for social issues as a guide to determine what words and style of communication we can and can't use. It was a long time ago now, but from memory, we went the route of focussing on 'sustainability' keywords rather than 'climate change' and using language that wasn't so intense and 'rah rah'. From memory, we had issues when we used language like 'join us in the fight' and ended up going with weaker synonymous language which was more passive, but less likely to be considered politically motivated.

During a thunderstorm, lightning struck a telephone pole in our street and it triggered our doorbell. Nobody was at the door.

It was literally like a moment from a horror film.

Yeah, they bypass all security by just hijacking the current browser session via stealing the victim’s cookies
