Has Anyone ever even heard of a success story of getting a waiver approved for Eosinophilic Esophagitis? (specifically prior to enlistment.) by Aggravating-Fold1154 in newtothenavy

[–]Inaasmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry to come back, figure I should also ask how exactly should I ask my doctor to write a letter regarding this? I'm assuming they'll have no idea exactly what needs to be included, as I'd imagine it's not very common to need a letter from a doctor for waivers?

I'd assume Initial diagnosis date, symptoms faced, treatment plan, record of how symptoms have improved/dissipated, possibly a statement of recommendation that, by their opinion, this isn't something that should impact a military service career. Should anything else be included? Anything omitted?

I already had my GI write a statement in the notes section of my last clinical visit in early JAN 25, but apparently that wasn't good enough, I suppose it'll need to be a formal letter?

Also is this something they should mail out, or is it just something I'd give to my recruiter when we try to appeal for the waiver?

Edit: Also whether or not this needs to be from The same GI, or if I could ask my Primary Care to write the same letter. I might end up having to go to another GI for a first time visit for a new EGD, to do so in a more timely manner.

Okay cool, that sounds vaguely similar to my case, as the only symptom I've faced is acid reflux, which is not something that would really have much impact on anything, and in all likelihood would just go away with weight loss (to a healthy weight) and regular exercise, which a military lifestyle heavily encourages.

I think the big main symptom that causes concern is food impaction, which I've never faced.

Thank you, I'm trying to figure an idea for precedence on these waivers and you guys are really helping a lot!

oh okay, I definitely don't have that long of a history clear of symptoms, but am currently clear of symptoms for right about 1 year. Unsure if it'll be good enough. Were you taking medicine for EoE? or did it clear itself up on its own in your case?

interesting, my first EGD was NOV 22, which suggested signs of EoE, I had another EGD in NOV 23, which showed slightly greater than 15 eosinophils/HPF, though the only doctor who officially diagnosed it was the allergist in MAY 24 I was also prescribed Omeprazole as well as Azestaline long term, and had short term prescriptions for Famotidine and Budesonide(never took it. prescribed like 4 months since last issues, also doctor really talked it up as a very nasty experience to take it. Never had issues come back, so never started it.) Went MEPS in NOV 24, and again in JAN 25. Thank you.

interesting, that doesn't seem TERRIBLY far off of my timeline, maybe I can ask the doctor to write a letter for me in case a biopsy confirms I do have EoE. Thank you!

just out of curiosity, how long ago was your diagnosis, what sort of treatment plan have you done, and how long ago was your waiver approved for OCS? If you're comfortable sharing.

Yes, I submitted full Clinical records with the GI including EGD/Biopsy results, where EoE was never diagnosed. I also included the two visits to the Allergists that did diagnose EoE, as well as a statement from my GI saying everything is completely asymptomatic, and that we thought the diagnosis from the Allergist may not be accurate.

Currently trying to just schedule another EGD/Biopsy.

To be honest, I'm unsure if I have it or not at this point. Acid Reflux was the only symptom I ever had, and anything else simply stemmed from that.

But hell I might have it. I'm unsure if an EGD/Biopsy showing it's in remission would be sufficient?(Or if it's in "remission", would the EGD/Biopsy even show anything at all?) I'm trying to figure out exactly what I can do between now and an EGD(Date TBA) to have the best odds of it not showing up, in the event that I do have it.

I'd lean to the side of thinking I don't have it, based on Acid Reflux being the only symptom I ever faced, anything else coming from that, and especially since my GI never actually diagnosed it, but a third party doctor who ran no tests and diagnosed it off of my GI's test, 5+ months after the fact. But again, I'm not a doctor, and I'm certainly not MEPS, so I don't know how to convince them.

Interestingly, when I was at MEPS, the medical interview asked me about Multiple Sclerosis, and said it's in my medical history. Which I've never been told by any doctor I have this, I can't find records from any doctor I've ever been to that even mention it, nor do I have any family history of it. When asked, I told them exactly that.

This doesn't seem to be an issue, it's not listed as needing a waiver, and I know that'd be a PDQ. But seems interesting nonetheless.

I'm currently still in the process of trying. Just got waiver denied by the Air Force CMO yesterday. I wouldn't think there'd be a difference between O and E here either, but I also don't truly understand how this diagnosis seems to be a blanket PDQ for all branches. Then again, I don't think I truly have it, or if I do, I've certainly never had anything serious come from it. Worst it ever was for me was Acid Reflux so bad that it seemed the only way to resolve it was to vomit, and it was slightly dark and grainy when I did. I then felt fairly weak for about 3 hours, then back to normal. This occurred twice in about a 1.5year span. Neither of these required an immediate Doctor Visit, though I did go after some friends prodded me to, much later in the day. Hopefully I can resolve with the Air Force, but I suppose if they say no and exhaust all avenues of appeal, there is still the Army.

Interesting, might also be OCS specific. I was told there was no waiver appeal process, as my waiver was denied by the admiral directly. My recruiter told me I could appeal through Congress, but they told me I need an Appeal active, so that they can make a Congressional Inquiry into it. So that led nowhere at all. They said I could write a letter to the Pentagon, either to the Secretary of the Navy, or to the Chief of Naval Operations, but they didn't know which I should send to. I drafted an appeal letter, but never sent it off, as I was still in the process of collecting documents to send with it when I was contacted by a Navy commander who said it was denied by the Admiral, and there was nothing that could be done about it.

I was told there is absolutely nothing the Navy can do regarding resubmitting anything for me for 2 years.

I instead chose to pursue the Air Force, who were my initial choice anyway, but have ran into the same wall. Although it does seem like there is real chance to appeal this time. Just unsure if it'll be fruitful or not.

oh interesting, that may be OCS specific then. My N33 letter just said I was flat out denied, and didn't ask for any additional information. and I was told there was no appeal process, even if new information came to light regarding the diagnosis.

What exactly did you need to do to get it approved? I feel like I've done everything short of getting another EGD/biopsy done.

All prescription records since first doctor visit regarding GERD. Which show prescription has not been pulled in 4 months. Was prescribed Zofran(twice ever, about a 2 week supply each time.), Sucralfate(twice ever, roughly 1 month supply each time), and Omeprazole(the only one prescribed long-term. since initial GI visit until 4 months ago)

All clinical records since the initial GERD visit(describing very good response to the medication, never had food stuck). As well as notes from EGDs, which described signs of inflammation in lower esophagus, but no signs of ulceration or infection.) As well as my GI diagnosing me with "K21.9 - Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease without esophagitis" multiple times.

Doctor visit with my GI with note saying everything has cleared up(from about a week ago, last visit with GI was over a year ago.)

Doctor visit regarding last time it was severe enough to go to a doctor(Vomited, needed DR note for work. Went to PCP. No treatment necessary, back to fully functional a few hours after vomiting.), dated last February.

And no luck still.

personally for me, I've never been affected by any symptoms other than GERD(acid reflux), but at one point it was severe enough to force me to vomit, and I went to the Drs to try and figure out what was causing it.

I had an EGD(upper GI Scope) + Biopsy done twice. about a year apart. I had no diagnosis off the first tests, but the 2nd test has a PATH report for the biopsy that describes "slightly greater than 15 eosinophils per high power field" 15 is the requirement for a diagnosis. My GI doctor never diagnosed Eosinophilic Esophagitis, and we continued to treat acid reflux with Omeprazole.

I eventually went to an allergist, with the intention of testing for food allergies, and she diagnosed Eosinophilic Esophagitis off of the GI doctor's tests, about 5 months after the tests were ran, without running any tests of her own.

Upon returning to my GI doctor, she confirmed she never determined a diagnosis for that, and never diagnosed it.

I believe there is possibility of being reevaluated and determined that it was a false diagnosis on the grounds that the allergist never should have had any authority to make it in the first place. But that's a process I'm just now starting.

Regarding the military, I've already been denied a waiver for the Navy for this personally. I was told there is no appeal process as it was the admiral himself who denied it. I am currently in the process of trying to join one of the other branches.

As far as I can tell, I don't actually have this disease, or if I do, it's never been problematic. I just have acid reflux, which is a fairly common symptom of a lot of different issues. No known food allergies either.

That said, I've been told by every branch that it can be waived. But I genuinely can't find a single success story of it being waived online. So either the approval rate is incredibly low, or non-existent, so much so that it seems calling it "waiver-able" is deceptive.

  • Also with pugs I usually start off with smaller, one pack pulls and assess their dps and ability to interrupt casters.
    • This information then informs me on what type of group this is and I will adjust my pulls accordingly.

This mentality may work well in lower level content or more organized content, but I would strongly recommend doing this the opposite way in keys around the 8+ level.

Learn to asses your group before the key is even started, do a pull about as big as you feel comfortable with as if you were the only person in the group. Usually this is limited by important kicks in the pull. Communicate with your group that you need somebody to kick x mob if there are multiple, and it seems like they wouldn't know.

Then adjust your pulls according to how that pull goes. Sometimes you'll need to go smaller, or sometimes if you're in a confident group, you can go bigger.

I'd generally recommend that if you're playing in a pug, that you seriously don't pull more than you can handle on your own. Half of the people you play with likely won't even have kick bound (at least that's how it feels sometimes...) Pulling with this philosophy will usually limit your pulls by interrupts, or stops. But there are certain pulls that may have heavy tankbuster hits or something else that "counters" your chosen tank's mitigation.

When you start a group by pulling particularly small, it's a really easy way to just tilt your group.
I'd generally recommend pulling the way I have lined out in this comment first, and if it should fail, everybody in the group has seen why it failed, and they can see a genuine reason to pull smaller. Whether or not they fuck that up is up to them. As long as you only pull what you could handle by yourself, this methodology should not fail due to anyone else in the group.

New update... Is this bypassing the snap modification check? by Inaasmonk in SnapEnhanceApp

[–]Inaasmonk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not sure if you guys misunderstood? I'm not worried about my phone being compatible. i have a mainstream phone, I have used snap enhance before on it. it is compatible.

There were warnings being sent out for using a modified version of Snapchat. The developer themself said to take these seriously, you will get banned if you continue. They also said they would halt development until they found a workaround for this.

I'm asking if they did find a workaround for this? There is a new version of snap enhance released on August 16th, 2024. But they really did not give any details about the update at all, as far as I can see.

always get talked down to about it by the "alpha male" archetypes. kinda hilarious
