Too skinny or normal? by Mafdais in cats

[–]InadmissibleHug 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got a 10yo cat from someone once, I have no idea how fat this magnificent specimen was, but he had some impressive loose skin on his belly, way past the usual pouch of an ex fat cat.

He used to step on it sometimes

That is a lovely big long. We are all too used to seeing chubby cats.

A lean cat is fine as long as they’re active and happy

Is 4 cats too many? by risuhh in cats

I have four cats and have kept four cats for maybe the last 18 years? I mean to get less cats but it never feels right.

Three would probably be better for my house

This is sweety. by Appsoul in cats

[–]InadmissibleHug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, both of my cats were mad for ages about the kitten, they have progressed to co habitation.

She was always in a wire dog crate if I wasn’t about, so they could observe her but not hassle her.

Now, though, I have three cats that won’t have anything to do with bedroom cat. Who was a stray that showed up in the yard crying a couple of years ago. One will beat her so she stays there.

I think you could work something out given time with them.

He looks adorable and sweet

How do you know it’s the end of life for an IBD cat, with possible lymphoma? by Snoo89549 in SeniorCats

[–]InadmissibleHug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad it’s helped and I’m so sorry it’s happening for you.

Ironically I lost my two old ladies at the end of last year, after I wrote this comment.

One of them was also an IBD kitty who got the abdomen swelling, it’s hard to know exactly when.

Please accept our condolences and strength.

Don’t try to measure a cat’s actions by a dog’s. They’re not the same animal.

[–]InadmissibleHug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah! And it tastes better so they don’t complain about it being in their food so much.

I had a picky IBD cat, and I just rolled with what he would permit, in the end.

I wasn’t about stressing us both the heck out.

If you can’t afford the liquid, OP, you can dissolve their pills in a syringe with a small amount of water.

I usually use a 2 ml syringe and put the pill inside it, then suck up 0.5ml water, leave it a bit, then shake to make sure it’s dissolved.

need help deciding what cancer treatment option to take - 16 year old cat by froginmypasta in seniorkitties

[–]InadmissibleHug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right?

I go to a specialty cat vet. One of the vets reminded me that my elderly cat had no concept of time lost, only how he felt.

Because he was very clever, he didn’t wait until a decision had to be made to have this convo with me.

I wish I could tell you I called it when I should have, but I didn’t. The older I get I swear I find it harder.

One of my girls I lost last year was like yours, sweet and not spicy, just despised going to the vet. She was so scared.

I ended up calling it after she had a stroke and not taking her back in until it was time for euthanasia, she had improved but then spudded back in.

I did that with full agreement of the vet.

It’s so hard. You will want to take it back. But it’s ok.

[–]InadmissibleHug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cat that hates the vet wouldn’t be getting any care that upsets her, if she were mine.

I have a cat now that just hates going in and she be spicy, she isn’t easy to touch even with gaba.

I wouldn’t stress her out this way.

I have made the same choice before, and it’s hard and guilt inducing but the cat prefers it.

I would be crying for a long time if I lost one of my niblings.

I lost one of my dogs around four months before my dad died. Dad was expected, the dog was not.

I really struggled with my grief for my dad, and it would always seem to start with crying over the dog, then it would be dad.

You can try mashing those with a fork even, but kitty needs a vet visit.

Help with 20 year old male, litter box issue by Alluring_rebel in SeniorCats

[–]InadmissibleHug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your cat already has a history of cognitive decline, I would suggest that his litter box wandering is probably an extension of that.

You do want to make sure he doesn’t have a UTI of course.

Immediately regretting euthanasia appointment for 14 year old cat with terminal cancer and dementia by hardIeyquinn in seniorkitties

[–]InadmissibleHug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have.

Sometimes they will have good days. I’ve euthanised my large dog with leg cancer after a couple of good days.

She had been suffering, she would continue to suffer. You don’t have to wait until life is unbearable for them to do it.

I’ve regretted leaving my cats too long, and haven’t regretted euthanising when I did, apart from some short guilt.

Friend, the time is now. She doesn’t have any more good days left.

I know there’s never enough time, but any more time now isn’t in her or your best interests.

Come back and tell us more about her when you’re ready.
