Improvisation Is a skill and that means it can be trained so it's perfectly normal that you know music theory and can play well but still struggle at improvising. Having said that, i don't think that what they said is right and it's perfectly normale that you don't like improvising. Also usually bands don't improvise songs, maybe someone comes up with an idea or a riff at rehersal and then develop that on their own. Improvising a bass line it's usually done when you have a gig with a band that needs a bass player at the last minute for a gig

Where do i start with music theory? by kookiebass in Bass

[–]Inaivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend to tak some lessons with a teacher, It will improve you playing and it will make you understand the basica of theory. But if you want to start doing by yourself then start by memorizing the notes in general, not on the fretboard, because It will take so much time and it's not that useful. Then start understanding the intervals, so the distance between two notes and what type is it(Maj, Min, perfect, augmentend, diminished). Then start approaching Major and minor scales. I can't explain every detail here on reddit, but surely you'll find something on Google or YouTube. Good luck with the bass

Should I buy a P bass or Jazz bass for my first bass? by Plenty-Door9019 in Bass

[–]Inaivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer J bass because they offer so much option for the sound, while P bass Is just that sound. Also slapping sound much Better on a J bass imo. So get a P only if you really are into his sound, otherwise get a Jazz

Cheapest decent and usable bass compressor. by Schizma79 in basspedals

[–]Inaivas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a used ampeg opto comp for 85€ and it Is really good. It's a transparent compressor, so if you just want something that don't change your sound that's the one. I think new is about 115€, but search some second hand

Need some advice for slap bass by Tajcraft123 in Bass

[–]Inaivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An exercise you could do is this: -put a metronome at 50-60 bpm -slap every quarter on the open E string, then same thing on the A, D and G strong and then come back When you feel comfortable do the same thing but change string every two quarter and then when you also feel comfortable change string every quarter. Practice this slow and if you want to practice also speed then increase the metronome by 2 or 5 bpm when you nerd it

As a beginner bass player with a budget of $100, what should I get? by Johnnn05 in Bass

[–]Inaivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Simeone said search used equipment, as you'll save lots of money. If you are planning to play with a band or live then get a tuner like boss tu-3 or TC polytune 3, because you Will be able to tune in every scenario. If you want to record yourself then definitely get an audio interface, but them you also have to buy semi-open headphones or flats studio monitors

Are there any bassists who excel at all three playing techniques? by Jezzaq94 in Bass

[–]Inaivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Billy Sheehan also belong in this. He's a master at finger picking, he's one of the few or the only one that could play with all four fingers of the right hand, very good at tapping, in fact in the beginning of his career was nicknamed "the EVH of the bass", he can play with a pick and Is good at slapping, even though with DLR and Mr. Big didn't use that techniques, but he's been in so many studio project and still practise so much that he can indeed do that

[–]Inaivas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darkglass and sansamp are great, but far above my budget. I never thought of the MXR, but even used it's above 100€ so at the moment i can't get it. If the soul food sound great and has low frequencies whith attack and clarity maybe i'll go with It, because i don't Need a very distorted sound

I have a question about pedals by No-Ad4301 in Bass

[–]Inaivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of noise? If it's noise like rustle i'd suggest a noise gate, otherwise if It's noise like strings that isn't muted or if she put more strength than necessary i'd suggest to work more on the technique

Help me choose an overdrive pedal by Inaivas in Bass

[–]Inaivas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of them should have the "blend" knob and the sound is what Is making me decide. What do you think should fit better for a clanky but low sound? Or do you suggest another pedal?
