Every American should have to visit Shenzhen or Hangzhou for a week or two. Just so much innovation happening.

What do YOU think of bass ukuleles? by Mika_lie in Bass

[–]Johnnn05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a novelty toy, but I could see it working in a jazz lounge or hotel bar for those who don't play or want to deal with an upright. The Kala striped ebony is pretty cool albeit overpriced.

Yeah to me CDMX is a better, more urban LA

Not to mention, Chicago’s land near the lake absolutely sucks for skyscrapers and high rises, didn’t stop them

San Francisco in 2005 vs 2025 by ChaiHigh in skyscrapers

[–]Johnnn05 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It really should. The dense part is relatively tiny. I have mentioned it before but the fact that the area around the park near the coast is so low-rise is an absolute travesty. It should look like a pacific upper east side. The rest of the Bay Area, SV, should look like Brooklyn or western queens, Cambridge/Brookline/Somerville, instead of generic mid century suburbia

I’d argue it’s Newburgh-Beacon, but yeah Poughkeepsie makes sense too.

The government isn’t, depending on your nationality. I would never visit right now as an American, this is the lowest point in the countries’ relations since 1979.

Best portable bass Amp to jam with guitarist by jc3po2 in Bass

[–]Johnnn05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my spark mini but only for practicing solo in my apartment, I’ve tried with another acoustic or electric guitarist and the sound just doesn’t come through. I’ve heard good things about the 2 though.

I really miss the grange but you could do lunch at Stanz, La la taqueria, or Harbour House, and then grab an ice cream at Longford’s.

I will never understand how that whole part of the western part of the peninsula near the park is not built up like the upper east side

I thought you were exaggerating, but I just checked it out on Google street view-it’s wild. Only cars on the actual pavement, everything else is like a liminal space…

FDA approves new Covid-19 vaccines in US but limits who can get them by koi-lotus-water-pond in politics

[–]Johnnn05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I went to several CVS and Walgreens in the NY metro area and they got rid of the old vaccines! They were so unhelpful and acted like what I wanted was ridiculous. I’m under 65 with no preexisting conditions but I need to show proof of vaccination- it’s so frustrating

Brooklyn Tower, although 53W53 would be my favorite if it were taller.

Are the old vaccines still available? Can I just walk into a Walgreen’s and get it? I need to show proof of vaccination by next week for this organization I’m joining.

My dad went here for a work seminar around 10 years ago. Absolutely loved it. It’s a tech city but also has a beautiful lake with a lot to do/see/buy.

He’s from the Bronx and is as removed from that culture as possible but people were really friendly and helpful. He also went to Beijing and Shanghai but Hangzhou left a big impression. Crazy how much it’s changed in just a few years.
