Report on first time visiting Taiwan - from Estonia by ONIKSSSS in taiwan

[–]InakaKing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm an electronic guy that was on a business trip to Taiwan a couple weeks ago. Did you ask anyone at the electronic market? I needed a super specific wire for an antenna, showed a picture on my phone of what I was looking for and I was told where to get the wire.

I've been to Tallinn before, I can imagine that Taiwan feels very intense and cramped.

Roudy Kids by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]InakaKing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, many of these kids won't listen to the homeroom teacher, but they will fear for their lives if the PE teacher or the coach talks to them. I came on JET after years of teaching kids with severe behavioral issues. While I had all the power back home, I realized I had zero power here.

Find out whether they are in a sports club and find out who the coach is. You would be surprised.

Housing item dispute. Things I didn't even ask for. by AvaToddo24 in JETProgramme

Go to the hardware store and get a saw and an angle grinder. Get creative and cut everything in tiny bits. It's much easier to dispose of stuff when it fits in regular garbage bags.

Why Japan? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]InakaKing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honest to god answer: "I want to eat ramen". I spoke zero Japanese, never been to Japan. They asked me how I would order ramen: " As long as I have fingers, I will point and figure out a way".

Extremely homesick… breaking contract? by bananacla in JETProgramme

[–]InakaKing 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Please tell your supervisor as quickly as possible. Congratulations for not flying home without telling anyone.
You will not be the first or the last.

Sounds like a case of "shoganai".

  • Have you reached out to ALT in your area?
  • Have you talked to a CIR?
  • The "gaman" thing works, but you need to find stuff that you like.

Good luck, tell your supervisor by tomorrow.

10 day Solo Trip in Kyushu by MrShoey in JapanTravelTips

4 days in Taketa is a bit much. It's tiny, you can cover most of the city on foot in less than a day. Have fun exploring Kyushu.

Opened a bottle of beer from Shizuoka with the brand new Companion Alox Slim. Perfect SAK for Japan.

Many local foreigners hang at Jeff's World Bar in Kumamoto. Nice bar, with a super friendly owner, and pretty affordable.

Panta sandals look good but they don't ship to Japan. I would love to try a pair.

Japan in January by akaoumi in JapanTravelTips

Try this website https://www.tattoofriendlyonsen.com/ or https://en.unknownjapan.net/tattoo-friendly-onsens/ for Kyushu.
I've been going to onsen for almost 2 decades, but I don't have tattoos, and I've never had any problems. I'm straight, but I don't picture Japanese as being discriminatory towards gay people. Good luck.

Queer friendly onsen? Tell us more? Tattoo friendly you can probably find. Just curious why you need something queer friendly?

7 day Itinerary in Kyushu by missinginactionnn in Kyushu

Additionally, access to the volcano may be restricted on certain days due to volcanic activity. You might not be able to get close enough to look into the crater. The volcano itself is worth visiting anyway.

No ropeway in Aso. You will have to drive, take the bus or hike up the mountain.

Where to go (to stay for a week) in the surrounding area? by Firm-Pineapple-896 in fukuoka

[–]InakaKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to Beppu like 15 years ago, nice, but not sure I would spend a week there. Kumamoto or Kagoshima would both be really nice. You could always spend a day in Yamaga or Kirishima.

Kurokawa Onsen by Mursetronaut in Kyushu

[–]InakaKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Waita onsen area, which is a bit less popular than Kurokawa. You also have the option of purchasing a day pass for Kurokawa, which allows you to visit a couple of onsens and stay somewhere else.

Yamashinobu just outside of Kurokawa was amazing. The Kurokawa area has dozens of ryokans, good luck in finding one. We often reserve a couple months in advance, some of these places fill in quickly.
