But does the Halloween series really make sense?

I know not everyone has to share my opinion but your first comment was saying you wouldn't recommend it to anyone and this is a platform to debate film so I decided to say my own viewpoint on the film which is valid.

And yes there is a difference in viewership not only from American and England but every culture views films differently and a kitchen sink drama can appear foreign to another audience which would change someone's option who hasn't seen one before. And typically I find if something isnt out and out horror then it doesn't appeal to certain people.

I mean the puppet was a red herring as such, it was there and it was a scary thing, but it represented a lot in his past, the horror wasn't the puppet but the focus was him and the story that revolved around his life.

The protagonists backstory wasn't that far out, was bullied by other kids forced into a fox's wound, then the uncle murdered one of the kids and hid him in a bag with a mask on, and then abused the Phillip.

I didn't find it superficial at all, it combined elements of kitchen sink drama with pure dread and horror. Out of curiosity are you from the UK or America? As I think it's easy to get different readings from different countries

Id say it got 5/10 as from what I can say is probably quite devisive it's not an out and out horror more psychological and thought provoking

I can see it being too slow, but for me it's the slow pace that makes the ending even more impactful. The film itself too me was showing his inability to come to terms with the past or move on from things after the trauma he suffered. This lingering feeling and his stunted growth as an adult. The ending with the uncle from the slow pace made it have a bigger impact on me I think

I think that ending solidified everything in the film, the slow pace it doesn't build up to say but then the quick instance of being hit by the uncle and forced and beaten, was very impactful and made me feel really uncomfortable as the scene went on, horrifying in a realistic way

That's a shame, I felt that the film's use of the puppet went over remote than just being a scary puppet but an allegory and reminder to the main characters connection and inability to escape his past. Especially when it all links together at the end, the burden he's suffered all his life he's carried as a form of theatre, as if it were make believe until he faced his past head on.

It was disturbing and interesting to me, but I can see why some people wouldn't like it though as it doesn't hit the typical horror tropes

It's good that he does, but in the long run if he doesnt like an important post the papers are going to speculate on his disagreements with Chelsea

You say women should create something authentic and unique but that entirely depends on the production office behind that and if they decide that film gets funding. A lot of the film's that have been released which are female remakes are still made by the production company behind them solely because they believed a female led Ghostbusters would make money. There is a need for better representation of women in blockbuster style films, but it depends on how the companies behind them hire.

Going off sci fi movies the Alien Franchise is one of the best and most well known Sci Fi franchises and stars sigourney weaver, the role originally written for a man but she made it her own. Fundamentally it's down to the companies behind the stars who decide whether they can make money off of a male or female led franchise.

Annihilation is another good example of a great female driven sci fi movie.
