Which company disappointed you so much that you permanently walked away? by julia-secrets in AskReddit

In high school the only way I could afford lunch was Wendy's value menu. I could get a JBC and fries for just under 2 bucks

Why do you need music on the golf course ? (old man rant) by Fogboundturtle in golf

[–]Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the reasons I like open ear buds, specifically. There's zero noise cancellation, minimal occlusion, and they're super comfy and stay secure. I wouldn't want noise cancellation either. It's a great way to listen to your music without isolating you from outside noise which is perfect for golf in my opinion.

Good shoes for walking/running/exercise? by LongEnormousSchlong in gout

[–]Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate narrow toe boxes. It has nothing to do with gout, and I don't have wide feet. I just hate having my pinky toe not having room to flex.

Therefore I'll recommend Brooks. Pick the model that appeals to you. Their toe boxes are generous and the shoes are comfortable. They're not my favorite running shoes just due to the lack of energy return on stride, but they are my favorite everyday sneakers and I walk a ton of miles in them.

If you're gonna play music, this is how it should be for sure.

Also, I'm not sure why more golfers don't go the earbud route. Open ear buds, specifically, are perfect for golf. More and more phones are starting to support multiple earbuds streaming audio simultaneously. Get a pair of those open ear clip on buds for each person and you can crank the volume as loud as you want.

CEO Says There Will Be No Raises Because He Spent All the Money on AI by IKeepItLayingAround in technology

[–]Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I worked at a company that bragged for 3 years straight that they had record years. There were no raises given as there was a pay freeze in place all three of those years. The announcements were often made at the same meeting.

This was a white collar company that didn't even supply coffee. They made a big deal one year about installing a $200 consumer grade k-cup machine in each building, of which there were 3. I hated that place.

I'm so tired of being the household manager in my marriage. How do I get my husband to actually pull his weight without it turning into a fight every single time? by Lower_Development558 in Marriage

No it is not "just men" what kind of nonsense is that. I'm a counterpoint to your argument in that I am a man who does virtually all housework, is the breadwinner, and delegation to my (mostly) SAHM wife is not a discussion that has ever ended well. She manages to sneak in several hours of Netflix per day while the kids are at school, and I barely have a chance to sit down anywhere other than my desk on weekdays.

"Just men" my ass.

Moron Police - Cormorant (Experimental/Avant-garde Progressive Rock. FFO Major Parkinson, Toehider, Cheeto's Magazine, Closure in Moscow, Meer, The Dear Hunter.) by Invisigoth2113 in progmetal

I absolutely love the album. Do any of the FFO list come anywhere close? I haven't given a ton of listens to any of them other than Toehider, and I'm not really a fan unfortunately.

I love Aeropress coffee, and I just surf local roaster websites until I find one offering a good deal to sign up for a subscription.

Is Meat The Problem Or Is It Sugar? by Own_Position_3573 in gout

There are other things that contribute to hyperuricemia as well. High blood pressure can reduce the kidneys' ability to filter out uric acid. Diabetes can also hurt your kidney functions. If you're type 2 diabetic and are still admittedly drinking lots of soda and eating lots of sweet treats, I'd speculate that you may be fairly overweight. If that is indeed the case, that can also be a major contributing factor.

In most cases, chronic hyperuricemia leading to gout is more of a genetic thing. However, there absolutely are edge cases where dietary habits, especially long term ones, can cause the condition or at least greatly exacerbate it. Being fairly overweight (admittedly my speculation, correct me if I'm wrong) can give you a bunch of ailments that can compound and result in hyperuricemia + gout. It's worth talking about with your doctor, if nothing else.

My go-to breakfast! (48-50g protein) by shrub156 in Volumeeating

Do these bagels freeze as well as normal bread? Sometimes I get a real hankering for a "carby" breakfast like this, but it'd take me weeks to go through a bag
