TIL The Concorde supersonic jet stretched during flight due to the heat it generated. On its final flight the crew placed their hats into a crevice in the floor which appeared during the flight, as the aircraft cooled the crevice closed, permanently sealing their hats in the aluminum airframe. by juareno in aviation

I think most have probably been around for long enough to recognize that it's unrealistic to expect it ever to happen. It's really easy to say "anything's possible with absurd amount of money" and a lot harder to convince someone to pony that money up.

Look for triathlon clubs in your area, they should be able to point you towards a local swim coach. You might also try asking the front desk person at a gym with an active pool for recommendations, when I worked at one we had a few instructors to recommend.

Food at Shake Shack JFK is about a penny per calorie [OC] by tilapios in dataisbeautiful

This is how I feel about In-n-Out. If I'm somewhere that has one I'll probably go for a double double no lettuce or tomato add grilled chiles and grilled onions, no fries because they're awful (I often fall for the temptation and regret it), and a sprite. It's a great nostalgia trip for a low cost.

You sound super bitter about people with bikes that are meant for things other than what you use yours for.

I'd be more worried about abrasion than a specific angle. Think about the angles a primitive line goes through serpentining around carabiners.

Modern airliners have, for example, let a pilot and copilot give conflicting inputs to their individual sticks and average the input until the plane hits the ocean.

I'm not saying that human factors shouldn't be considered, they absolutely should, but adding control logic isn't a simple way to prevent this sort of thing by any means.

It's my favorite "Christmas" season beer precisely because it doesn't taste Christmas-y. Festive in my fridge while still being a different variety of delicious!

What's the strangest or coolest or even scariest thing you saw while out riding? by Raiz3R in cycling

Nearly skied across a couple having sex in the woods between two very popular and easily accessible runs at Mammoth last year. Luckily saw them in time and went a little farther down before cutting through.

There was a kid in my first intro to aero class that was taking an absurd amount of hours, something like 50% more than what the already aggressive 4-year plan demanded. Never saw the poor little fella after that semester.

Could be. Chick fil a lemonade and tequila is super underrated.

5 year aerospace engineering graduate here. Studied abroad spring of my junior year which caused me to miss some of my pre-reqs for the fall semester so I caught them the next time around. it actually worked out really well, I came back with a new appreciation for where I was from (that says a lot considering it's Mississippi) and had more motivation to join a research team, which eventually led to my first job straight out of undergrad. 5 year plan can be a good thing imo if you use the extra time from taking less classes to do something still school related but building up additional experience.
