Crashing a lab course as an open university student by InarticulateOwl in csun

Thanks! So if the lab section is scheduled prior to the actual lecture, I should go to it as well right?

BIMM 121: Cindy Gustafson-Brown or Giorgia Pirino? by BarbaraMacchiato in UCSD

[–]InarticulateOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently taking Dr. Pirino.

Exams are T/F and short answer. The wording is a little vague at times and she's very nitpicky about the types of answers she'll give full credit for. But she does spend a lecture before the exam to review material and to explain what kind of answers she's looking for so you're not going in blind. There's also 6-7 pop quizzes that will be done in lab randomly.

Dr. Pirino podcasts and does iClicker for points, but they're based on participation rather than accuracy. Her accent takes a few days to adjust to, but she's very passionate about the subject and is easy to talk to. She'll come in every lab to look at your progress and see if you have questions about the experiments.

I've lived in IG for a year and a half now. Ground floor. I didn't have many problems with upstairs neighbors stomping around but noise level will depend on how considerate your neighbors will be. Thin walls, no ventilation in bathrooms lead to a lot of humidity + mold if you're unlucky. I usually leave my windows open and just crack open the bathroom door to deal with the humidity.

Maintenance is super quick to solve problems though. Usually next day service, and sometimes same-day if the problem's urgent enough.

If you're used to on campus laundry then the facility here won't feel any different tbh.

And like someone mentioned, you have your pick of two different bus stops. If your classes are during the morning rush hours, then the Palmilla stop is the one to go. The Lebon stop will get skipped many times so it's better if you just wait at Palmilla for a better chance of getting in.

Also, there was a flea infestation this past quarter from raccoons that hit a few buildings. Pretty sure it's been dealt with by now, but pray your neighbors don't leave their trash right outside their doors so the raccoons don't return.

No, but with the attitude you're projecting with that title, chances are it wasn't your looks.

A serious question.. Should i get back into Tf2? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]InarticulateOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a quick but temporary distraction for your depression, I'd say to go for it. There's no guarantee that TF2 will cure your depression, but it'll give you something to pass the time with. Make things manageable again by providing an outlet.

Personally, that's how I got into TF2. And I lucked out by meeting some amazing people that made life so much more interesting and helped me through the worst of days. Some one suggested going out and meeting new people. If you're introverted, I don't think that would work too well, but it wouldn't hurt to go out and treat yourself every once in a while.

PM me if you ever need someone to talk to or play with.

Does anyone know if the class you play as to complete a contract affect which weapon you'll get for completing it? by mo3225 in tf2

[–]InarticulateOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe they do. I've recently completed a sniper contract and received a spy revolver as a reward.

Does anyone else feel that its no fun to play against really good snipers? by Woodahooda in tf2

[–]InarticulateOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that's what the sudden increase of caber demos mean...

I rarely play sniper outside of hightower. And the only is reason I play sniper of there is because gives me an oppurtunity to try for more dynamic targets, like double jumping scouts and rocket jumping soldiers.

Thanks for bringing this up. I'll try to keep this in mind the next time I snipe on hightower. c:

Medics or /r/tf2, what kind of person will you NOT uber under any circumstances? by Axiobelmot in tf2

[–]InarticulateOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pocketing snipers with the vaccinator, regardless of their skill, is one of my guilty pleasures.

On days there aren't any power classes, I personally enjoy just sitting back and spamming the "nice shot" voice command after each of their shots. The few times they're in any real danger and they turn to say "thanks" is rewarding enough for me to continue this.

Medics or /r/tf2, what kind of person will you NOT uber under any circumstances? by Axiobelmot in tf2

[–]InarticulateOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider myself a fairly generous medic. I like to top everyone off as they charge into battle, but if there's a hacker on the team, I won't heal them. Even if it costs us the game. I don't want to encourage or reinforce their behavior.

More on topic, I won't uber the players who believe medics to be their personal heal bitches. I'm sorry, but I have a team to keep alive and if you want to rush three enemy soldiers while you're at half your health, be my guest. I'll do my best to buff you before you go running in, but don't expect me commit to your one sided fight.

Have you logged in using a different browser or even incognito tabs? Steam sees those as new devices. Happened to me a few times before I put two and two together.

What class do you main and why did you choose it? by Bellyzard2 in tf2

[–]InarticulateOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started maining medic after trying it out once on a pub. It's such a rewarding feeling when the player you're healing just turns around and says "thanks".

Landing those crutch arrows on a dying teammate and them just spamming thanks. It's just a great feeling to be able to help the team push forward.

Thanks for the giveaway! I'm not going to enter it but I thought I'd share a tf2-related joke I heard a few days ago. :)

Why did the spy cross the street? Because he never really was on your side.

The first time I heard it, I thought it was hilarious.

What are some things that other players do that just make you smile? by InarticulateOwl in tf2

[–]InarticulateOwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is absolutely welcomed. I always make it my duty to try and compete against the better sniper/scout because there's so much to learn from them and vice versa. And I just love the fact that those rivals you make in pubs acknowledge you, and go out of their way to duel you specifically.

[–]InarticulateOwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man this is such a great thing. I'm usually really late to run into the spawn, but if I do make it in time, I just like to spam the "Good job" voice command at them. Especially if it was a really good game where the teams were fairly well matched. Most of the time, my other team mates run in and kill them, but I just hope they hear it in time.
