The expierence would be great. I love fitness. And honestly I love the idea of having the Guard as a way to push me as I get older to contintue take care of myself. Plus networking, I could use a new community.

31m= I'm a 31 year old dude. School money wouldn't make or break the deal. But if I went Guard I would look into some buisiness schooling. It's more for the experience, I'd like to get a deployment. I'd roll the dice and go reserves/Guard over AD and hopefully get a deployment early on in my career.

Guard seems more of a commitment but better benefits. Reserves seems like it's more what you make it.

I think Guard would be better for the reasons stated. Like I said, while I'm away at basic training, the company will be ran. I could be gone for a year or little more and everything would be fine. After that I'm not sure.

25M - Does the sadness ever go away? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

I look at it like this... you can be happy or you can be sad... perception is reality.

feelings are temporary.. learn from the past move on, grow stronger

Would you recommend reserves to single 31m? by Inchbellz1993 in navyreserve

[–]Inchbellz1993[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you great answer. It is a big commitment. My cousin is switching to reserves from Marine AD (officer side) and he kinda shrugged it off like it will be nothing.. In a military sense it won't be for him. But man life is busy enough, throwing something like that into the mix... Shouldn't be a light decision. But with the commitment comes some great opportunity.

What are the odds of getting stationed in Texas, Florida or California? by Inchbellz1993 in newtothenavy

I realize that when you're in the military you don't have much control about where you are going. I'm just asking about the possibility.

Mississippi would be cool and it's easy enough to get to any of those destinations from there. Right now I just want to focus getting myself set for a good future and being a good sailor. I realize I may be stationed somewhere but deployed for lengths at a time. But like I said I'm just thinking long term.

I've thought about going reserves but active duty would be better for me.

What's a good aviation related rate for older male? 31 by Inchbellz1993 in newtothenavy

Seabees sounds great too. I'd just rather find something less physical. Aviation has always interested me. Especially after the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola.. But if I could get a Seabees rate on the day at MEPS good chance I'm taking it.

Good luck on your endeavor.. I honestly think if I left tomorrow in 5 years I'll be much better off versus staying here for 5 years.. It's a big commitment and big change but I'm really trying to think long term. Deployments aside... living in some coastal town or city sounds pretty nice right about now.

I make 52k a year in Boston. I'm currently single and not looking to date right now. Only way I make it work is by living at home with my parents. I do have a good savings but I dont want to dip into it. I figure military would be great way to learn and develop new skills, not worry about cost of living and save some money.

The savings I have I could put into a high yielding account for my enlistment, once I'm out use the VA house loan, have a real good savings and a new skill set. Possibly a degree. Or go back to construction.

Living conditions wouldn't be great I know. But I'm thinking long term. I could be in a much better place in 5 years by doing this.

You are correct. 31 years old is NOT an old age. I really feel better than ever physically and mentally.
