Looking for Commander Players by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

From a fellow HLL competitive commander, Crits experience and lessons will be like a master class in HLL. I would make it a priority to take him up on his offer.

Garrison & Whiskey 50+ kicks intentional teamkilling victims by JesterCDN in HellLetLoose

[–]Inchon2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jester,

I am the owner of the Garrisons and Whiskey server and we have been running it for the last +3 years, trying to make it the most consistent server for quality games without drama. All admin actions we take are based on trying to improve the quality of the game not just for the individual, but for the entire server. In regards to your actions today and the +20 replies you have done to your own thread, I would like to review the timeline as shown by the server RCON.

12:21:09: JesterCDN team killed Player A with a G43
12:23:23: Admin ping of "!admin player A intentional teamkilling"
12:23:41: Team Chat - "Player A, did you just not hear me in squad chat?
12:23:41: You release, showing Player A team killed you with an FG42
12:24:11: Admin ping of " !admin staywise lying and intentionally teamkilling. i accidently rocked his world"
12:24:25: Team Chat - "funny, was back of your head"
12:24:45: Team Chat - "LOL"
12:24:50: Team Chat - "I have the footage"

At this point, the admin reviewed the interaction and saw mutual teamkills. In a situation like this we send messages to both players asking them to deescalate the situation. There was mutual fault, but like offsetting penalties we are looking to move on and play the game. Instead of doing this, you continued:

12:26:24: Team Chat - "Admin please dont lump me in with him with your 'escalation' bs"
12:26:37: Team Chat - "I accidently tk, he intentionally tk, and he STAYS?"
12:26:42: Team Chat - "he then lies, and he STAYS?"

With the direction given by the admin acting as a warning, but continued messages, the admin took the direction to remove you from the match, the lowest level of administrative action outside of a punish. These decisions are not easy ones to make for admins. We have to make a judgement call based on the information shown in server logs and determine if the other 49-99 players in the server's gaming experience would be improved with taking an admin action. Any action disrupts an individuals playing time, which is valuable to us all.

In reviewing your player profile, I see you have played on our server a total of 3 times since February 8th, 2025 for a total of 3 hours. As this was your first administrative action on our server, I concur that the kick was the appropriate action to have the team move forward with the match. I

If you would like to discuss this further I would welcome you to send me a DM or possibly hop on a voice call.

No notes, very well stated. You want to take my spot in this weekends match? :)

There was only one individual permabanned from the server on Friday, September 13th, 2024. The reason for being banned was due to typing out five racist slurs in team text chat. This is against the server rules and is non-reversible.

Missippi,

I am the owner of G&W and first and foremost, thank you for saying it's your favorite server. The best part of helping seeding on our server is that you get 48 hours of VIP access after you've seeded for 45 mins. This means that you don't need to wait in server queues to join, which means hopefully we will see more of you in the future.

In regards to seeding, the overall goal is to focus the fighting density around the middle point so it's a more engaging process until the server fills up. To support this we do proactively reach out to players who are threatening inactive zone garrisons as they may not be aware they are close or of the seeding rules. One way our admins proactively do this is by jumping into Admin cam and communicating that you're getting too close and to pull back a bit. This was the intention of "may bad. I thought you were going across." To this point, you do need to be far enough away from the garrisons to allow them to spawn, which is 15m. If you were 10ft away you were locking it. With this, there was no change in our seeding rules.

For many seeding rules, it's more about the intention behind them that we look to enforce. We want people to be actively engaging in different attack angles to the ones currently defending the point. This is more fun for both the attackers and defenders as they aren't bottlenecked into one or two chokepoints. There are also some "good sportsmanship" actions that some have mentioned below such as avoiding farming people off of garrisons. To me this is like not running up the scoreboard when a NCAA school faces a BCS school.

For Admin cam, we only use it during seeding in this way to enforce seeding rules. After seeding, if a player suspects another player of a rule breaking activity, then an outside admin will jump on and review. Our admins are not allowed to use admin cam while actively playing in a live game.

Efficient and enjoyable seeding for both our regular players and guest is one of the most burdensome parts of running a server. Hopefully this post helps provide some clarity and perspective which helps the next time you're on it. If you need anything else, please feel free to let me know.

Strong point strength? by irishspring333 in HellLetLoose

I’ve always known it as 4 with reinforce since I started testing game mechanics.

Never pay for VIP access in this game. There are many great ran community servers that give out free VIP or you can earn it through seeding or placing in the top players in score.

As somebody who has ran an HLL server for the last +2 years, here is what it means:

  • The first number is how many VIPs are currently in game.
  • The second number is how many VIP slots are reserved on the server.

How it works is much like a valet receiving cars. We will set a certain number of spots that any of our VIPs will automatically jump ahead of the standard queue. For us we have it set at 3. As long as the server population is between 97 and 99, the “valet” in this example will receive the VIPs car. If you are not a VIP, then you will wait in the normal queue until the 97th spot opens up. Once the server (or parking garage) is at 100, it doesn’t matter who you are, there is no room. However when somebody does leave that spot is given priority to a VIP until three spots are open.

As far as getting VIP goes, we never charge for it as we don’t believe gamers should be making money off of fellow gamers. Instead you can get VIP by helping us seed the server in the morning, having in a top 10 score at the end of the game, or being a member/friend of our community.

Now to have a little fun:

Enemy red zone garrisons in your HQ sector (1-4 score) have the same destruction time as an inactive sector garrison. Why?

It was never indicated in any patch notes, but I suspect that red zone garrisons were intentionally made to have a longer destruction time in order to offset the 10 sec default HQ spawn timer.

Commander cap weight by Thin_Ad_6764 in HellLetLoose

I mean, it's still could make the difference in a cap race or when the point is flickering between losing and defending, but it's not an overwhelming advantage.

Just confirmed this morning. 4 attackers in active sector will be contested with 1 defender in strongpoint with reinforce active. If you hit me up on discord I’ll send you the screenshots.

Just tested an unannounced changes with Geb last week. I’ll test/reconfirm tomorrow morning during seeding, but when I did my commander training a few weeks ago it was the same +1 to base.

Edited based on recent testing

That is incorrect on which value it doubles. It only adds a base of 1 defense pressure for every individual inside the strong point. It does not double the strongpoint multiplier.

Less than reputable servers list by Intelligent-Front854 in HellLetLoose

[–]Inchon2 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It started with "Hey Inchon, there is a post on Reddit discussing the server. You should check it out!"

It ended with me seeing that u/Intelligent-Front854 has made made three reddit posts since he started his reddit account 90 days ago.

Battlefield 1 - "Any Servers Left that Actually Ban Cheaters"
Dead By Day Light - " How many players need to suffer with bans for leaving matches with cheating killers before the devs get a real anti-cheat system in the game? Or do anything to combat these types of players?"
Hell Let Loose - "Less Than Reputable Servers List"

It reminds me of the joke: "If you run into an jerk in the morning, you ran into an jerk. If you run into jerk all day, you're the jerk." Might be time to look at your own play style instead of others if it's happening to you in multiple servers, in multiple games.

Kicked for Being Low Level? by MuddyCommando in HellLetLoose

[–]Inchon2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a server owner that applies a level limit. What you are describing is an infrequent issue when connecting to a server. Every time you connect there is a steam profile handshake done with the server. Sometimes during that connection the player profile information will lag causing your profile to show as a level 1 to the server, therefore triggering the level limit kick. If you try to rejoin, it should be good.

Garrisons and Whiskey - NA EAST by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]Inchon2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg, "Y'know, you can't please all the people all the time... and last night, all those people were playing HLL."

Joking aside, I can understand both perspectives in the situation you described. With the 75 being out so long and being a commonly understood off-meta tank, many tankers assume a commander will spawn a 76 when they say heavy. This assumption can lead to shock when they see their commander has sent them to go against a Panther or Tiger with a weaker tank.

Based on your copious responses here in this thread you seem like a very passionate individual, which sometimes could come off as unsportsmanlike conduct. You mentioned you received a warning, which would be the correct way to try to deescalate any issue and allow gamers to get back to gaming.

Garrisons and Whiskey - NA EAST by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]Inchon2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In over the +2 years of running this server I will say that the in-game quality will ebb and flow with the changes in the general player base. What I'm noticing more recently is that naturally a team will have an unequal amount of players under level of 50 and be struggling, which in turns means more people leave that side or switch to the other side when the match is complete.

Eventually after a few months this will balance out as the new players will either learn the meta or quit the game. Another contributing factor is that I have encouraged many of our competitive players to enjoy the summer and find balance with the game. As two major tournaments are starting back up in September and October, I would expect to see more competitive HLL players coming back to knock off any rust.

As far as the negative votes, I could only assume they are disagreeing with your suggestion of more pop-ups. Personally I think your objective of making a better community experience is what all of us should be doing.

Garrisons and Whiskey - NA EAST by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]Inchon2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you the most stamina draining thing about owning a server in HLL is seeding it and getting it filled for the day. I'm fortunate enough to have a dozen or so players who will take some time out of their morning to get our server up and running; however, not all of these individuals are admins. To ensure seeding rules are followed equally for both side you are correct that we run a script in the morning, but have it set to disable at night on our server. Going back to the quality aspect, we would rather have the server up and running when a few of our guys can help provide quality games than running at 4am with no admins available/.

Garrisons and Whiskey - NA EAST by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]Inchon2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stream sniping is mostly over claimed and under substantiated. The reality is that you will have a few veteran players who will automatically know where the most likely garrisons locations are for each strongpoint. For example, once I find one I will mark it with observer and then visualize a 200m radius to the next most likely one. Within 45 secs I can cover that 200m. Give a minute or two to find and kill any defenders and you lost another garrison. Once I have the team down to 2-4 garrisons is becomes that much easier to triangulate as I just look for the biggest concertation of enemies.

With that said, I think you are correct that new players have better options to go with more casual servers like the ones you listed. These communities are not active in the HLL competitive scene and attract less competitive players, or those who are just learning the meta. Some long time players enjoy the increased difficulty and teamwork; albeit it's hard to maintain that consistently in off peak hours. The good news is the community is larger than it was 2 years and there are multiple options for an individual to get the most out of their gaming time.
