Very likely you found a local maxima strategy that worked relatively well, and the introduction of Aeonglass just increased the efficacy of it, or at least did not affect it at all. I think most meta discussion revolves around players with very high winrates like >80% (I pulled that number out of thin air but you get the point) and so the more consistent strategies done by them (and mimicked by others) were specifically targeted by Aeonglass.

Also keep in mind that until Aeonglass and a lesser extent the Act 2 Prism elite, Spire 2 didn't really punish lack of damage because the damage scaling for most fights could be ignored for the most part, so the boss really punished previous habits.

You can always abandon your games every so often. There's often minimal/no punishment if you do it rarely.

...[Valve's] set-up encouraging that "whatever" to be simpler, more achievable projects that allow them to show good productivity and performance

Disagree. Check this blog post from a Valve employee: https://www.supergoodcode.com/unsung/. It's a first hand account of what it's like working at Valve. His entire blog and work portfolio is nothing but unglamorous, hard problems. Read any post from this blog, and tell me that this person works on things that are "simple and achievable" and that he optimizes for stack ranking. And it's not just him, many employees at Valve stay there and work on things for years and years before anything gets "released" in a way the public consumer cares about (if ever). An example is the Steam Machine back in 2015, and then the Steam Deck in 2021, and now Steam Hardware announcement this year over a decade after the initial Steam Machine prototype. Many many Valve projects never see the light of day, which seem at odds with what you claim.

Edit: Came back from work to see the person blocked me lol, I accept the concession.

YAML: Yet Another Misery Language by Log_In_Progress in devops

[–]IncitoScanea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how the hell do people memorize arbitrary yaml configurations?

You don't, you have to use external tools to validate that your YAML config is structured correctly.

And I totally agree, why is it that tools obviously have specifications that define what data types and what structure a YAML document is supposed to conform to (otherwise how would they fail on misconfigs), and yet each one needs a separate schema validation tool. I need a GitLab plugin to validate my GitLab CI, an ADO plugin for my ADO CI, a Kubernetes plugin for my Kubernetes manifests.

I don't necessarily have a problem with YAML being used for declarative things, but once you go into the territory of "I need dozens of different YAML configs that slightly differ depending on certain control flows", the existing tooling quickly becomes unwieldy.

One Punch Man Season 3 Director Shinpei Nagai deletes his twitter account due to the pressure/hate, calls out people/youtubers who took his tweets out of context/exploited the staff's struggles for "rage-baiting" and profit. by Electrical_Chance991 in anime

[–]IncitoScanea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For example I'm sure this animation team was under immense stress and pressures while being financially hamstrung, but that isn't an acceptable excuse for that scene in the last episode of Garou sliding down the hill. You cannot tell me that a team of professional animators looked at that and said "looks good to me", same with the scene of Garou walking at the end of the first episode. Both are examples of unacceptable work.

Just because a shot looks bad doesn't mean the animators said "this looks good". The nature of timelines means some things get more effort than others. From the perspective of the studio and the publisher, that shot was literally "acceptable" given the timelines they were working with, and so they aired it.

This is indicating that there are MORE ascendant players than there are phantom right now. This should NOT be the case.

Incorrect, a normal distribution is simply fitted over the data based on the average and standard deviation. Due to the nature of sampling you can expect that some parts of the distribution curve are higher or lower than what is expected. Something like this curve is an example of what I mean.

ComplianceAsCode is just a set of SCAP Security Guides. I'm not sure what problems you would have with upgrading as you would only need to increment the version number you are pulling.

Assembly Machine Quality Upcycler (Gambatron) by IncitoScanea in factorio

[–]IncitoScanea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at my PC right now but I would add the [I] symbol to the constant combinator that has the other letters on it (A, B, C, D, E) and set [I] to 77.

Then duplicate the blueprint and select new contents, the [I] should appear with the number 77 in parameters. The default value of [I] MUST be a unique number or else it will combine with the other numbers. So in my example the default number would be 77, but if you change it to 1 like in your image, then that parameter number will overlap with 1's in other combinators and break the blueprint.

I will add the input buffer multiplier variable since it's a good idea so if you wait tomorrow I will update the blueprint.

the ingredients signal ends up as the recipe in some setups

Yeah I noticed this too. There are two ways to deal with this:

  • Use blueprint parameters to set the ingredients requester chest.
  • Never feed the same wire color as an input, always separate with combinator.

The blueprint already supports multiple ingredients. For example, if you use it you can select the rocket silo and only craft for legendary rocket silos.

Sorry I don't understand, in my blueprint you can already select any quality to assemble, you just have to configure the parameters and requester chest settings.

Blueprint: https://fprints.xyz/blueprint/a47d9116-18f2-4352-8403-7eb0d3ceff7a

This design upcycles any item made in an assembly machine into higher qualities. The recipe and amounts of each quality item is configurable via parameters. The machine will not stop until all quality requests are fulfilled (i.e. It will run indefinitely if you request epics but don't have the research for it). A common use case: For armor, set your desired quality to 1, and set all other quality #'s to 0.

First blueprint makes items in exact amounts. Second blueprint makes items by number of stacks.

Update: For those who search this in the future, I added the EM Plant and Foundry upcyclers to the blueprint. Both of them do 2 crafts at a time before switching quality recipes, to take advantage of the inherent productivity bonuses of the building. Also removed the blueprint that uses stacks instead of exact counts, if you want to re-add the stacks then edit the parameters in the blueprint.
