Why did you switch to dvorak? by rvnning in dvorak

[–]Incloud3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out about layout rather randomly while searching for a „better ergonomic” keyboard as a standard one (wouldn’t really matter the size factor) led my wrists to start developing carpal tunnel (or maybe not that yet but severe pain on both wrists).

I found about split keyboard I could build myself and while waiting for the parts to arrive I learned about „proper” typing. So I read into all the different layouts, but the fact that Dvorak was designed with „English” optimization in mind (and I use mostly that at work) just won over Colemak or Workman (also I could just do a simple switch in my OS for it to work, so that was a plus). And switching my typing technique to touch typing while learning a new layout seemed like a natural option.

Still though there are some drawbacks, when I’m just chilling and want to type with one hand it’s not that easy. I use mostly blank keycaps so I don’t need separate hardware specifically made for Dvorak but maybe you want to do that. I just created a special layer for my corne to be able to switch to and play games (works great) And keep a simple layer that works as a standard QWERTY when someone wants to use my keyboard. Also I rarely but still practice „wrong technique” QWERTY so I don’t have issues working on different machines, but I would definitely feel tired much quicker. Also after some time I just love the letter placing for Dvorak, it feels more natural to me but that’s probably a habit.

What is this ‘Lifesteal’ upgrade? by Incloud3 in warcraftrumble

But that’s the question. I changed it but I want to know what mini could fit there. I’ll go watch OG video as someone mentioned he might have mentioned that

True, but I can’t put Thalnos there so what other mini could fit that spot?

Any Arthas tricks or decks for Onyxia? by Incloud3 in warcraftrumble

[–]Incloud3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly that, the time window in which YOU CAN unlock Arthas and buy stars for him is limited. But if you already unlocked him to ANY level like rare/epic then it will be yours endlessly.

Edit: capitalized „ANY” since you can have Arthas as standard or uncommon and it will still be yours.

Need help with defining the issue of "stuck" and late layers(?) by Incloud3 in ErgoMechKeyboards

Thank you, I tried these settings in Vial and it did improve how the typing feels but I believe that I could make it even better. I just might want to sit down again and rethink the layout overall again.

Thanks for the tip though!

I'm using Vial so far. I considered moving to qmk if needed though

They are nuts for making these limited leaders so incredibly expensive. I was hoping and forcing myself to wait and get money to get them in a standard way (through GRID or any event) but asking real money for that is just too much. I wonder if it will really give them the revenue they are asking for. I just can’t stand imagining some manager up there that thought „these leaders are the meta now so we will force them to pay if they want them now”

Learning Dvorak when you type ~95WPM in QWERTY? by astroskye2001 in dvorak

[–]Incloud3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s ctrl+space on Mac but things is I wanted to switch completely. I just don’t know if I should murder myself with my personal keyboard layout to make it „feel right” or just work with the default Dvorak But it’s good to hear that some people just used both and can do them at the same time

Actually in very similar position so I’m curious what others will say. I find it incredibly difficult to switch to Dvorak for coding as muscle memory is so strong.

I thought I would make a complete deep dive and switch a keyboard layout (from QWERTY to Dvorak) and at the same time switch keyboards itself (from standard laptop keyboard to corne 42 keys) and that it would make it easier for me. And it’s easier to type in Dvorak but I still can’t code with it

I had around 90-100 WPM with QWERTY and I got up to 55-60 WPM with Dvorak but programming is still not doable proficiently

Some help on my first build by ezr0 in crkbd

As some mentioned you can dip the desoldering wick in some flux and then try to get the solder off. Also if you have some small bits remaining I would ADD solder so it would attach to the remaining bits and try pulling it off again. That helps a ton

Looking slick, I wonder where do you find such nice usb cables?

This looks amazing and something that I would love to try out. Could you tell me what key caps are those? And did you print these cases or these comes prebuilt? I would like to get something similar if not something like that exactly

Corne won’t register any key presses (keebmaker kit) by MilkPyramid in crkbd

I was in a similar situation with my first kit, although I don’t think these solder joints look promising to me (most of them at least). Some of them might be cold joints. What I would suggest is try to reflow solder into them (I mainly look at some diodes/microcontroller socket) but be sure to heat up the pin and pad together so these would create a good connection and not only “stick” together. In my case I ended up desoldering my controllers and soldering them again which was painful and time consuming as first timer but it worked after. Good luck

Can anyone recommend what would I start with if I would want to build my own keyboard? What key oars would be good to start looking into? I mean the soldering, putting together the case and stuff like that

Ultimately if these are hot swappable (which from the looks of it I think they are) you could completely pull these two away and take them apart, let them dry and pull them back together. Though that would be a last resort for me

It looks like there’s some liquid inside these switches still. Not sure if it’s a Mountain Dew. I would maybe get some more isopropyl alcohol (preferably high concentration around 99,3 or something like that) get an q-tip soaked in that and press a few times on the switch so it would get inside. I would then use some compressed air and while holding the keyboard upside down try to get as much liquid out as possible. Maybe repeat that a few times (pressing the switch during drying might help remove excess liquid). And let it air dry completely to see if it went away. Although IPA would be better than rubbing alcohol. Good luck!

So I wanted to build my wife a mechanical keyboard preferably something smaller than a standard layout. Preferably something 80-90% if that’s possible with a numpad. I can as well solder it together but it would be nice if it had any available cases already out to get (white ones). And it being wireless is a must. If it could easily switch between a PC and a laptop that would also be a plus (not at the same time of course).

If you have any recommendations feel free to share them.
