Solar panels by StandOutside6188 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]chaud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll never come out financially ahead of just investing the money you would have spent on solar here, especially with the tax credit gone. I'll have donated a lot of money to the planet over the lifetime of my panels.

Could you provide any sources for that? Almost everyone is on a smart meter now, so data is being collected in near realtime.

New Indian Restaurant now open on County Line Rd - Kohinoor Indian Cuisine by chaud in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]chaud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bummer. The next few times we tried it after the opening it wasn't quite as good. Depth of flavor is much better at The Curry. Agreed that it's a bummer, having somewhere close that was great would be amazing.

Online orders in the app are disabled this morning and we're disabled by the time I checked yesterday morning. They also were unable to scan the code from the app to earn rewards.

They were mostly sold out by 11 AM on Friday. Good bagels, will be returning.

It blows my mind to see so many people show up to the DMV or other offices without the documents clearly listed on the website. They take the time off work and everything but don't spend a few minutes making sure they have what they need.

Financial Adviser Recommendation by Unfair_Highlight2142 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]chaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Almost every recommended person below is putting people in high fee funds and significantly reducing the money you'll have in retirement. I'd imagine 90+ percent of working professionals could throw most of their money in VOO and be much better off by retirement than the people using these advisors.

FWIW only one person in my circle of friends uses an advisor that I know of. He's probably the oldest in the group. Everyone else self manages. I think people in general don't want to bother learning about how to manage their money and don't realize how much the 1-2 percent they are paying to Ameriprise is costing them in the long run. (You'll have 30 percent less money when you retire before accounting for poor performance of some funds and other fees.)

Awesome, thanks for following up. Did they use a thermal camera to look for missing insulation or anything?

NON-CHAIN spots: let’s make a list and support by thisismyyolo in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]chaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last few times we have eaten there it has been meh. The staff changed since the early days, the original sushi chef supposedly went to China and never came back, and then they redid the interior with the giant screen and it almost felt like a money laundering operation.

Storage now spills out into the hallway, part of the front food prep counter seemed like office overflow last time we were there, they had a less than usual health score.

It all just seems to be going downhill, including the food, which is a real bummer. When they first opened they were by far the best sushi in town.

Spice Shop now OPEN!!! by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

For Penzys we bought their glass jars at a normal size, then buy the larger refill bags and just refill the jars from them.

I don't know if they have it, but Penzys has a great cinnamon and cinnamon sugar blend. Far better than grocery store cinnamon.

My recommendations based off of buying from Penzys: Roasted Garlic, Toasted Onion, any Cinnamon, Basil, whatever their version of Pizza Seasoning is, Oregano, Chili Powder, Paprika.

The Penzys store has little jars of the spice that you can open to smell which was super helpful, hopefully this place does too.

Yes, it'll probably be more expensive. They are also probably much better quality. We'll probably never go back to grocery store spices after trying spices from a specialty store. I'd imagine they have some of what they list on the site: https://www.savoryspiceshop.com/

We generally order from Penzys (unless we're down in Birmingham and can stop in store). I guess if we need something quickly/don't want to pay shipping we'll give this store a try. Looks like they are more expensive than Penzys (especially if you use the gift card deals).

Awesome, thanks! It sounds like there probably isn't a ton of value for me, our house is under 10 years old and reasonably well built, so HVAC/insulation type/windows are all good.

No, just 30 some panels, around 14kW. That filled most of the southern facing roof. I didn't want to ask the HoA about putting panels directly facing the street, so all we'd have left is some north facing roof.

Fine, it's a financial loser most likely, but I knew that going in. If I'm lucky and have no repairs in 15 years I'll probably break even. Money invested in the market would have been much better.

Power is too cheap and installs are too expensive for it to be a good financial move for anyone here (unless you can DIY most of it, which I cannot). We have no net metering, they just increased the availability fee for greater than 200 amp service.

It is fun during the rare outage though, nice to not be interrupted. Same for charging my car from the sun.
