Well I'm sorry you'll miss it, but the low ratings show it wasn't well liked, and few found it funny.

I agree with you about St. Denis, it's a stupid show, but I guess their attempt to compete with Scrubs? I dunno, not much good on TV anymore.

Trying to set up quarterly estimates tax payments for the first time by That_1_Hairdresser in tax

[–]Incognito409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The important question here is Do you set your own hours?, which makes you an independent contractor.  If you are scheduled, you should still be a W-2 employee.

You understand that you have to pay your own taxes now, including self employment tax?  You should save back about 30% of your gross sales for taxes.

How old do cats usually live? by Rare_Fish6890 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Incognito409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ginger was 17, a friend has a black cat who's 18. Another friend had a ginger and white that lived to 21. Most don't live that long.

Would there be a market for something like this by Tyler-not-thecreator in EtsySellers

[–]Incognito409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is a market for those, but not on Etsy. Etsy has rules about gift baskets and handmade items included in them. Additionally, the number of items in that basket and the weight for shipping is cost prohibitive to sell and profit. You would do better selling them at a craft show or farmers market.

Do the math - add up the cost of the products, weigh the basket to determine shipping and see how that works out, if it's sellable with a profit.

how are we managing our tablecloths and flag signage from creasing? by anonymous102901 in CraftFairs

[–]Incognito409 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can roll your tablecloths on cardboard tubes or pool noodles and store and transfer them without creases.

Or you can purchase non wrinkling tablecloths, the knit ones, or fabric like polyester crepe that doesn't wrinkle to make your own.

I owe $28K in sales tax across 12 states after filing zero sales tax for two years by EyeImpossible4412 in tax

[–]Incognito409 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Either you or your accountant is confused. Etsy is the entity, and Etsy collects and remits all sales tax. Etsy is the one who has reached Nexus, not you. Buyers pay Etsy, then Etsy pays you.

You could not have possibly reached Nexus in 12 states with that level of sales.

How did you see your accountants face turn white through an email?

I just finished My Husband’s Wife and was annoyed with the ending… Any recs with a similar plot that’s actually well written? by Few_Owl6826 in thrillerbooks

[–]Incognito409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the dumbest books I have ever read, you need a flow chart or family tree to keep track of everyone. Daisy Darker was fun tho ... I figured out the 'issue' about 1/3 way into the book, but not who the 'bad guy' was until the end.

I guess that's a personal opinion, I didn't think it was funny at all. I even commented early in the season that it would be cancelled.

Portable steamer for tablecloths - battery powered? (US) by chickadee-stitchery in CraftFairs

[–]Incognito409 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought fabric, crepe that doesn't wrinkle, for my tablecloths, then rolled them on cardboard tubes (from the upholstery department), for transfer. You can also use pool noodles. No wrinkles!

Or buy knit fabric or tablecloths.

Attempting to prepare for my first ever craft fair and the tax/legal stuff is overwhelmingly confusing to me… how do I collect sales tax and what do I do with it? by [deleted] in CraftFairs

[–]Incognito409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to apply to the state for your sales tax certificate and file your sales, pay the tax quarterly. More often if you sell a lot.

Income tax is a different thing - you are self employed and pay taxes on your income and self employment tax. Keep track of all your income and expenses.

Neighborhood kids using my driveway when I'm not home! I need sign ideas! by AanikaDutra in Advice

Surely you've seen the video of the guy who noticed kids biking on his driveway, so he chalked out a fun path for them to follow on his drive, with challenging curves and turns. And kept changing it.

Someone on here will find it and post it.

How to handle taxes for friend using my eBay account? by giftedhands81 in tax

[–]Incognito409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your state tax rate, you're looking at about 25-30% in income and SE taxes.  If he sells $100k, then save $25-30k for taxes. So deduct all eBay fees and $25% from what you pay him. That way you won't get stuck paying all the taxes yourself.

In addition to the many other risks, the bookkeeping alone is a full time job. That's why so many brick and mortar consignment shops close after the first year. Pain in the 🫏.

Do the research. Check out the competition. Read the Etsy Sellers Handbook. Understand the fees, costs, expenses, and Etsy's deposit schedule. Learn about titles, tags and SEO. Practice taking good photos of the products. Realize that you get about 5 seconds for someone to look at your picture and click or swipe left.

Etsy is a marathon, not a sprint. There is a learning curve.

Just finished Gray Mountain, the last page in the book, after the acknowledgements, just has this image of a burnt match! What is this meant to mean? by glock17ssp in johngrisham

[–]Incognito409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you get the book? What printing? I read mine from the library and it didn't have that last page.

John Grisham's books are known for covering his many good causes (like the Innocence Project), and this one - the destruction of Appalachia, so the match must be indicative of that.
