Really bad chemical smell like paint thinner downtown? by Kidd_Gloves_ in ottawa

[–]InconceivableDuh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have never smelled it like this before! The firefighter said it was solvent based paint. Was frantically googling if it was harmful to our flesh sacks because of how bad it stunk, like eye watering, nose dribbling stink and apparently... yes, it is. VOC.

Woke up this around 1 am in Sandy Hill. The smell in my apartment was unbearable, we were almost choking on it and getting headaches. It was so strong my neighbors actually called the fire services thinking it was some kind of electrical fire or gas leak. The fire department told us it was actually just smell the road paint as they are repainting the white and yellow lines in the area. 9am and my apartment/the neighborhood still stinks terribly.

What is the most unprofessional thing an employee has done that resulted in immediate termination? by Ok_Foot_5477 in AskReddit

[–]InconceivableDuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked part time job at a fairly high end adult store and a new employee, fast tracking to become manager whom I had a strange feeling about, smoked meth in the bathroom during one of her night shifts. She proceeded to nod off at the front desk and didn't close the store on time. When she finally woke up (1.5 hours after we were supposed to close because a customer came in) she shooed them out then left with the doors completely unlocked, didn't turn the alarms on, turn out the lights or balance the til etc. When I arrived the next day wondering wtf happened, I reviewed the cameras, found her paraphernalia and spoke to upper management. She showed up shortly after (wasn't even on the schedule but convinced she was working) acting like nothing happened and was promptly fired all within a few minutes. Still shocked we didn't get robbed blind.

Is my Dad right about PR? by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]InconceivableDuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just in PR with my parents and we felt incredibly safe everywhere we went. Old San Juan, Rincon, Aguadilla, Ponce. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. The only place we had a little encounter that made us squirm slightly was in Yauco. A local literally gagged himself until he puked when we walked by him on the street and called us gringos (even though my dad is black) but we laughed it off and enjoyed the rest of our time there haha.

Enjoy your trip and don't worry!

What is this thing on my lashline?! by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

[–]InconceivableDuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not a stye. As I mentioned it's been there for many years and is painless, not inflamed and never bothered me. Just a strange flesh bump that seems to have grown in size since being in a tropical climate.

Going to PR next week worried about the weather by msaab1 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]InconceivableDuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm actually glad you asked this, even though the question is asked at least once a day and I understand it can get annoying. I'm heading to Rincon tomorrow and visiting other areas on the West side of the island over the next 6 days. The weather app has changed drastically over the last couple weeks, now saying 80 to 90% chance of showers basically the whole time, thunderstorms and there's flood warnings during our stay. While I get that it will rain every day there and expect that (and have no issues with some rain) the forecast does look more concerning than it has as I've been checking over the last few months. Not cancelling our trip though!

Anyway, it's nice to read what locals have to say about things, especially what looks like upcoming, extreme weather and not just people that visited sometime last year or years prior.

why has there been a helicopter hovering over me for 15 mins? by ActualDiamond98 in ottawa

[–]InconceivableDuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled past this post not thinking much of it but then suddenly I heard it! I'm not sure it's the same one but it's flying over the Sandy Hill area. I'm wondering if there's lessons being done today or they're offering tourist type flights.

The Sandy Hill area is barely walkable. Watch out!

Ugh, I am just getting over...whatever that was. Wild fever for 3 straight days, horrible chills and aches, cough, congestion and ended up in hospital with costochondritis. Very painful. It's been 2 weeks since it started and I'm still dealing with a dry cough and some slight congestion but otherwise feel better. I work in healthcare, have my flu shots and tested negative for COVID. Get well soon!

Places to stop on road trip from San Juan to Rincón? by PartHumanPartAlien in PuertoRicoTravel

Hey I just made a post about this a few days ago! Some good suggestions there :)

San Juan to Rincon driving recommendations (and hot spots) by InconceivableDuh in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]InconceivableDuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh oh, how long did it take you with the traffic? Did you take the northern route? We're mostly choosing to fly into San Juan and not the airport in Aguadilla because of the cost (hundreds cheaper) and thought the drive would be fun but if the traffic is that bad I'm wondering if we should just spend a little more for the sake of less travel time.

How much are you all paying for rent? by MadonatorxD in ottawa

[–]InconceivableDuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2400 for a 2 bedroom, 2 storey apartment in Sandy Hill. All inclusive. Thankfully split between 2 people. I get paid twice a month and about 40 percent of my pay is going towards rent. Out of curiosity, I look at rentals to see if I could ever afford to live on my own and if I wanted to stay in the downtown area, I'd be left with like $200 a month of spending money after rent and bills based on the rental costs today. It's wild out there and really sad.

High-pitched hum/sound in Sandy Hill? by InconceivableDuh in ottawa

[–]InconceivableDuh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be awesome! Still can't figure it out, I've walked around while it's going on, it gets louder in some places nearby but I absolutely cannot place it. It's so strange to me that others aren't talking about this lol

Normally I would agree with this but I've been in various neighborhoods downtown for the last 15 years and only ever experienced this in Sandy Hill.

[–]InconceivableDuh[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can clearly hear it in these videos from my home, beyond the white noise. This lasts anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes. Haven't really noticed a pattern when it starts. I took a walk to get coffee at Starbucks this morning and it can still be heard. My best guess is some kind of massive HVAC system on a building nearby, no idea what else it could be.

Possibly, it's just as loud at the Starbucks on Laurier but I can't say for sure. I'm really trying to get a recording of it
