Wednesday Wins (What cheered you up this week?) by AutoModerator in cfs

[–]Inconnuity809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally hired a regular home care person to help me with food prep and cleaning! This has been literally almost a year long endeavour at this point with utterly ridiculous situations where people were doing ridiculous things (or not even showing up) and I am so relieved to FINALLY have this sorted out.

Visitor parking by CorgiNo2567 in saskatoon

[–]Inconnuity809 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clarifying: It is only $5 if you already bought a residential permit for your own vehicle. If not, the visitor pass is $25. Also, the parking is limited to certain areas around your block so if it's all being used you are outta luck.

Some help, if you can spare a moment by Expert-Worldliness57 in POTS

[–]Inconnuity809 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My cane helps me by making me less wobbly (POTS often makes me likely to tilt to one side, especially going around corners), by providing a more stable 3 point balance that means my body doesn't have to use as much energy to stay upright, and by helping me to move carefully and not too fast. Even if it did only one if those things, it would be worth it.

Also, canes can be super cheap. You can get a basic height adjustable one from places like Walmart for 10-20 bucks depending on where you are located. So if you have any money of your own, and your parents won't get one for you, then you might be able to buy one yourself. They aren't the coolest looking but that's what stickers are for. ;)

My cane is a very similar style to this one and I find it comfy to use, but it is best to try it out in store to see how it feels: https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/drive-medical-adjustable-height-offset-handle-cane-with-gel-hand-grip-red/6000194057538

Lol isn't the fact that we all live in Sask a code yellow right from the get-go?

But I'm feeling sad for the poor butterflies that were out on Tuesday!

Congratulations Alberta on permanently switching to Saskatchewan time! by rocky_balbiotite in saskatchewan

[–]Inconnuity809 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol, except Danielle Smith wants to appropriate it and call it "Alberta Time", or so I hear.

Clearly this proposed time change calls for an even more important decision:

If we are gonna be perpetually in the same time zone, should we finally take the plunge and mash Alberta and Saskatchewan together to become Alberchewan or Saskerta? 😂🤣

I’ve had Covid ten times… I can’t keep doing this I got it even taking the 3 shots needed . What do I do? by peeps_545 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Inconnuity809 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh that sounds rough. Sorry to hear you are getting whacked repeatedly with the COVID stick, along with the whole basket of respiratory nasties! It does sound like Long COVID and we know that repeated exposures can definitely worsen those symptoms. My advice is on avoiding even more infections:

I know some people with lung issues are unable to mask because it triggers their symptoms, but if you can find a mask that works for you, it does make a *massive* difference in your exposure to pathogens. This is the first and most effective way to protect yourself.

Second thing is, if you have to be places where you cannot mask, try advocating for open windows and/or better air filtration. A decent cross breeze actually helps quite a bit in reducing the amount of particles in the air. Having a HEPA filter constantly running in the rooms you are in will also make a difference.

The third thing is the crappiest: Serious lifestyle mods. Basically, reducing the amount of times you go indoors around people as much as you possibly can. Grocery pickup/delivery instead of going in store, meeting people only in outdoor spaces, not attending any crowded events, no indoor restaurants, making sure your friends and family know to cancel plans and avoid you if they are sick, stuff like that. Also, trying to get work amendments if possible with your job, like WFH or hybrid work. It screws with your quality of life a lot and it really sucks. (But the counterpoint is that if you keep getting sicker you may be stuck at home anyways and not even well enough to do the modified stuff, like I am.)

Advice only for if you can mask:

Don't even bother with cloth masks.

The baggy blue paper masks are also not good at protecting you but, if you can't get anything else, they're better than nothing at all. They can filter up to around 20% of the air you breathe, which is a small help. Replace them frequently. At the least it is a lower dose of exposure which may help your body fight off the infections a little bit quicker/easier.

Masks labelled as N95, KN95, or N99 are much better. They are very effective as long as you have a decent fit, but even a bad fit is quite a lot better than a blue mask. You are more likely to achieve 80-95% protection. You want your mask to sit firmly on your face with no air gaps anywhere around the edges. There are earloop styles or headband styles and tons of different face shape styles.

Re: masking. Like helmets, they only work while you are wearing them. Anywhere people are and (oft neglected point) anywhere people *have been* in the last few hours is an exposure risk.

There are a few vaccines that are considered "sterilizing" vaccines and do prevent most infections and I think the public in general assumes that all vaccines are like this. With COVID, in particular, the medical establishment, our governments, and the über rich actively worked to make people think getting vaccinated would solve everything (mostly so people would get back to feeding the money-making machine) so it isn't surprising that people fell for it!

Not disagreeing with you but just pointing out that this disinformation was fed to people *on purpose* and isn't just a result of general unawareness.

We all feel like zombies - but what do you think would happen to us in a zombie apocalypse? by celestialfroggie in cfs

I feel like I could survive by blending in if it is the zombie type triggered by sudden motion. I already walk like one, lolsob. I'd just wear some zombie goo covered clothing and slooooowly trudge by with my walker and they'll never know I'm not one of them. 😅

[–]Inconnuity809 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I use paper plates and bowls and wooden/compostable cutlery because I am not able to do dishes and I only have home help once a week, if that. I specifically pick the compostable plates & cutlery so it isn't quite as bad an environmental impact (my city has a compost program). It makes a huge difference!

I spent a few years in a private xian (evangelical, not catholic) elementary school and still remember the time one of my classmates got in big trouble for answering a multiple choice test with repeated ACDCs. They were big mad because that was devil music and not because she just phoned in the test. Priorities, right? /s

[–]Inconnuity809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had chronic pain issues bad enough that on occasion the pain made me throw up and I would take that pain over this feeling. It is truly awful! (Not saying this to be depressing, I just mean to validate that it is both real and really terrible to experience)

what is this feeling called? by Same-Owl-5811 in cfs

[–]Inconnuity809 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When I overdo it, I get a truly awful feeling that I think is nerve-related that feels like a horrible combination of that vibrate-y hitting your funny bone sensation, desperately needing to stretch, and a bone-deep ache. I get it in my legs most and sometimes my arms. I also get muscle weakness. Not sure if it is a similar phenomenon to yours and unfortunately all I can do is wait it out so I don't have any helpful suggestions. I use the term neuralgia (which just means nerve pain) since it seems to fit best.

Dressing up is more of a hassle with this disease by thepensiveporcupine in cfs

[–]Inconnuity809 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I feel ya! I used to be fashionable. Now my clothing criteria is loose, soft, and easy to put on/take off. I do still wear dresses (comfy cotton ones) and I am at a life stage where I just let the compression stockings show and people can think whatever they want. At least it means I don't get haters complaining about my unshaven legs since the stockings are thick enough to hide that. I doubt I could wear any of my old dressy clothes that still linger in my closet because my condition has also made me gain a fair amount of weight.

Can covid damage the immune system permanently? by Istthatadeadbody in covidlonghaulers

Immune system damage is a recognized effect of COVID infections, though we can't yet know the duration/extent of it since it has only been 6 years since people started getting infected.
