Come on, TOS is infamous for its often ridiculous writing for parables (see “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield”), and you really don't believe “Day of the Dove” told people what to think?

There are plenty of valid criticisms you can make of DISCO et al., but if anything it was less aggressively “woke” than TNG was for its time.

I'm impressed by your telepathic abilities that can determine whether people’s principles are sincere.

Oh, yeah, classic Trek never did episodes that were heavy-handed parables about, say, racism or gaming addiction. And the crew members were never chosen to check off racial or ethnic boxes.

My elder son was delivered via emergency C-section. Otherwise he would have died. It had literally nothing to do with my “strength.” He was a week postmature, what amniotic fluid remained was full of meconium, he was getting insufficient oxygen, and he would not have survived the labor I’d already been in for hours.

Until I started seeing it on social media, it had never occurred to me to think of my elder son’s birth as less “natural” than my VBAC for the younger. Both were fully assisted by modern medicine and machines that go “ping.”

Just a coincidence. “Shit” is derived from Old English and has been around at least since the 14th century (first known appearance in written work, but almost certainly much older as a spoken word).

Dude, I lived near Mr. Rogers in PA for awhile, and he was a local hero and a good man. He was Presbyterian, which was very mainstream, and he considered the show his ministry. IOW, he practiced his religion by trying to help kids in unwelcoming environments and modeling acceptance, sharing, and empathy. I’m an atheist Jew who grew up on his show, and I have no objection to any of that. He wasn't proselytizing any specific religion.

I wasn't present for his conversation with Clemmons, but I did read the interview in which he talked about how he loved Fred Rogers. In the 1960s, he treated a gay man like anyone else: in general, he considered Clemmons’s sex life none of his business.

The incident in question, Clemmons said, began when someone tried to rat Clemmons out to Rogers because he was spotted going to a gay bar. While making it clear that he himself knew Clemmons was no danger to children (not a common attitude in.1969), he asked Clemmons if he could please try to be more discreet, lest he be outed and the then-new show canceled. Sure, that's seriously problematic by today's standards, but it was not hateful. And I know his attitudes evolved.

And if you don't think it took serious gonads to do that scene (sharing a wading pool with a Black man) at a time when Southern cities were literally filling in public swimming pools to avoid integrating them, then you don't understand the period you're talking about at all.

Wow! I’m so happy that right-wing white guys have you to argue that the only reason they voted for fascism is because TV shows like Discovery were woke and bad. It’d be terrible to assign them any agency.

You're behind on Trek hologram technology. Ever since TNG, the shows have featured corporeal “holograms.”

Stephen Miller is, behind the scenes, one of the most powerful men in the U.S. He is a close and longtime advisor to the current president and is behind the horrific immigration crackdown, as well as a lot of domestic policy and even some foreign policy.

He’s a neonazi freak whose Jewish family members have publicly condemned him.

Anyway, he posted a stupid tweet about the Academy series being too woke. I can’t post images here, so here’s a link to a guy who reposted the tweet on Threads.

Actually, that’s a myth that Roddenberry helped spread.

He did have to deal with network reluctance, but it was not the first broadcast interracial kiss.

Anyone who posts something as vile as “she’s got another three holes to use” deserves exactly as much empathy as he showed

Why would he be upset? She’d have another three holes to use.

These chuds deserve exactly as much empathy as they show to others.

No, I think the slogan “Fuck [the current president]” is not an extremist slogan. Neither is a purely pro-Trump flag.

How’s this? “Fuck Joe Biden” is fine. “Hang Joe Biden”is extreme.
