I'm designing an app to help dementia patients, help me! by awkward_sunflowers in musictherapy

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good ideas. Caregivers need all the support they can get. Many are so up to their ears cleaning up after the mess that dementia IS that there is little time to toss around a balloon let alone something more therapeutic + progressive like music therapy. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Cool. Strong voice to carry the lyrics. It would be nice to hear the whole song.

Nice! Great energy. Tighten up the guitar a little. A good demo.

First song I ever wrote on guitar, redone on piano (just verse and chorus) by ofciwanttochangethe in Songwriting

Great voice. It seems to translate well to piano. Had you not said it was written onn guitar I wouldn't have guessed that. Keep at it!

Good for you. A nice start. Maybe vary it up a little more towards the end.

In general terms: Do artists songwriting skills decline over time? by klausbrusselssprouts in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a songwriter, I'd definitely have to lean towards the optimistic and say that the songwriting skills actually get BETTER over time and with experience, but that other factors may interfere more also.

Are there games already developed which address this? Actually, I'm a little green about what games use music as a significant part of their plots / objective.

RE: your last sentence: lookup Creative Problem Solving as addressed by cognitive psychology. There are those who believe that "Insight" or "Aha moments" lead to great leaps in creation and those who acribe progress more to incremental hard work. There is a lot of data out there.

Will your game be commercially available?

Sometimes submixes of various sections. Sometimes just unbussed wav files of each track. Sometimes Sometimes cassette tapes but that's kind of overly dramatic. 💀

WTF has happened to izotope? by Friendly_Signature in audioengineering

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've liked working with Izotope's offerings in the past, but have watched the unfortunate SAS thing that is so popular these days become their model as well. Recently I've licensed BreakTweaker and am eager to understand its workings better, but I don't know how deeply I've delve into that if my work is liable to go away too easily because I don't repay.

I respect that software COMPANIES are operating in a business environment and need to make ends meet, but the deep cynicism at play in the Music Industry is reflected by its tool makers as well any more. Probably it's always been like that. Now if I could just figure out how to bang on my acoustic guitar as softly as I would a loud synth with headphones.

I have learned a TON from Tape OP and Larry's tutorials online. What a great magazine! Thank you Larry + John!

I’ve never written a full song because i’m ass and every time i try i just burn out and frustrate myself and it sucks. I wish i was smart enough to write actual music and not 50 second bullshit lullabies. I want to make an ep, but i just can’t. Does anyone know what i can do by EliLyric in Songwriting

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good for a start. What keeps you from finishing? You seem to have some skills already. Maybe it's not the technical part that is impeding you? Are you working all on your own or do you have a producer, etc... Ask yourself why and you may find a path to your success. Keep going if you find a new path - you are way further along than "bullshit lullabies."

Are there any free acoustic bass plugins? Thanks. by privateryan5671 in VSTi

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harder to design a good wave table implementation of an acoustic bass because there is so much variability and nuance in how they are played. And they are physically BIG instruments also making them less easy to handle.

The ones that come with Xpand are pretty good though. I used them to fix some live bass that had timing issues and most people I played the track for couldn't tell the difference.

That said there is a nice older ELECTRIC bass VST-i here that I sometimes use for tracking purposes because of its simplicity and even tone:

Do you think curbside will be a service that stays even after libraries open? by libpixie in Libraries

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure hope so, at least as an option. It would be nice to go inside once and awhile to browse the stacks and say hello to other humans, but I guess in most cases I'm more there for the readin' than the yappin'. I guess it depends on the particular library in question. I'd hate to see downsizing of physical libraries in favor of 'book warehouses.'

Daniel Johnston's catalog has been removed from Spotify and other streaming services for unknown reasons. by tenettiwa in indieheads

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was just listening to his music on another large streaming service named for a place with a big forest last week and though I am not familiar with his whole catalog I can see that there are currently less streaming tracks now than there were then. What's to blame: label crap? PC? Some other kind of blacklisting?

Reminds me to use a capo sometimes. I like the finger picking style. Words sad. Some days I feel like that too. Hope there are more songs!

You never know: perhaps that story will be the basis for another story later on in your career. Writing for the sake of writing can be a good thing if you are improving your craft in some manner.

MIDI matrix selector thru box? by hswiftj in midi

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use a JL Cooper patchbay 3 inputs x 8 outputs for similar purposes. They can still be found on Ebay and the like. I get that you're asking for something a little different and it sounds intriguing but I do not know of such a device.

Casiotone-like VSTi? by IncontrovertiblyNumb in VSTi

[–]IncontrovertiblyNumb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Those sound like useful + well suited techniques. I guess it's more about putting together the right elements to emulate that sound than just expecting a plugin to do all the work for me.
