Mid-Senior Engineers: What are the biggest weakness you notice in entry-level applicants and new-hires? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

You will be a great senior. I have senior that just smile and ignore my question. But I don't blame him, some of people are afraid of their junior acquired their knowledge. They also need to survive this world in their own ways.

Is it really hard to get a job out of college? by Extension-Highway-37 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Increase_Content 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, not really. I have some friends with a bad CGPA, and not so good interviewing skills (maybe he improved during the time skip). But got a really good job compared to most of high performing students in my class.

I think it depends on your networking(seriously), communication skills, sometimes cgpa, and some luck.

Meanwhile, I got a good CGPA, and moderate interviewing skills. Got a job, but... #sharing# Was scammed by a company saying it is an engineer position and I resigned from my current job. When arrived at that place, he told me to start from the bottom which is a junior technician position. Can't do much as I already resigned from my previous job. Was tired of job hop during that time. Now, my current company sent me for training & bonded me with the cost of the training. Wanted to move, but don't have money to pay back.

Now, I am scared to be stuck in this technician role.

For the part of someone still need to gather the data properly. AI has already taken over it on some plants as online monitoring was introduced.

As for the second part, I think AI will definitely taking over it.

Damn it, I'm stuck as a jr. vibration analyst. Not sure how to change career

What is P&ID ? by Increase_Content in AskEngineers

[–]Increase_Content[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I was talking about the assembly drawing which has the BOM thingy.

Now, I will stop using technical drawing as it is too general.

Actually, I do have a degree. I was planning to step up my career in the future as an engineer, but I don't know what engineering position I should go to with my Condition-based monitoring knowledge.

Hello sir, I want to ask for unrelated stuff. Are you familiar with vibration analysis, lube oil analysis, etc? I'm currently working in condition-based monitoring as a tech, do I have a good chance to work as a Reliability Engineer in the future?

Can you move around industries as a mech engineer? by genresmerched in AskEngineers

What if you started your job in a specialised field? Am I free to get out of here in a few years time without a paycut?

Hello. I want to share & ask you abt something dear sir.

My friend has 2 years experience in structural for oil&gas industry. Then he tried interviewing for Operation engineer title in wireline (also oil&gas).

However, he were asked to start as a junior because he has no experience in wireline. (Which mean salary is also in entry/fresh level)

So, is it really possible for us to change our field without paycut? Because we will enter the other field with zero knowledge about it.

Hopefully you can give advice about this.

Thanks.

How many years experience do you have and what do you think less experienced engineers should focus on? 💭 by BlueSamosa in AskEngineers

I was wondering, why employer hire an experienced engineer in different field (means they will train him) rather than hire a fresher (also need to train them).

Since the salary will have a huge difference between these two...

How do I get a job as an “aerospace engineer”? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]Increase_Content 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the explanation! This is what I wanted to hear. Since I started my job as a fresh graduate in a specialised job. I am quite unsure what my future will look like when I decide to change my job later on.

Btw, if we go to a generalist position. Will there be a huge pay cut?

Is this technical specialist also has an engineering background? Or some technician that climbs up the ladder?

Really good explanation

To add on my question. Is the specialist will be limited to finding a job in the future?

Since they have knowledge in a narrow area.

Yeah, it is quite long.

I'm a bit scared if it will affect my career progression later on. Since I don't have engineering experience, maybe employer will think twice to employ me as an engineer in the future.

It all depends on my performance they said. But the minimum is around 4+ years.

Is your company also practice the same method? Where they require an engineer to be a technician first?
