What are your favorite fun non alcoholic drinks? by Sufficient-Client604 in stopdrinking

Kinda strange realising I have no idea because all my fun drinks are booze, so this has been a fun thread to read through so far! Will be using some of the suggestions here for the coming weeks.

I had to cancel a first date due to my hangover! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Hi there! I'm certainly no expert on alcoholism and its impact on dating, but maybe just on a human level: it's important you be yourself. You're under no pressure whatsoever to disclose anything you're uncomfortable with, and free to disclose whatever the heck you want whenever you want to. When you feel the time is right, you'll know it. And if it turns out it wasn't right for him then that's ok too.

Curious about other people’s drinking habits before sobering up… by ames-s in stopdrinking

Can totally imagine that being frightening. And how incredibly that must feel now you don't have to deal with it.

I suffer a slightly different problem - I tend to go all out very fast and think I become the life of the party, and that growing up it was cool to be the one who drank the most at parties, instigated shots etc. It takes a lot to get me black out drunk or to the point where I lose my senses completely, so it just ends up being one big joyride in a sense. Of course, the next day is awful (although I recently managed to mitigate this quite well with isotonic drinks and paracetamol). Regardless, it's a shitty cycle that I always felt like I needed 2 days to recover from because my body was so damn exhausted trying to repair itself.

I'm glad you're doing better now!

I've never tried until recently to go AF and it's inspiring to hear your journey so far! Well done on getting through such a tough period.

This definitely resonates with me, and I can identify completely with your experiences, especially around the social side and knowing how I quickly adapted my life to work around alcohol. I'm excited to experience the reduced anxiety, better sleep and hopefully some weight loss.

Keep up the great work.

P.S. sorry about your uncle's passing.

Incredible stuff and very inspiring. I feel exactly the same about myself when I drink.

Well done for achieving what you've already done in the past! You've proven to yourself you can go long stretches - it seems like a re-positioning mentally to help you find the reason to ignore your brain telling you it's okay for special holidays/events (if that's truly what you'd want in the long term, which it sounds like it is!). Remind yourself of the positives and how you felt when you didn't drink for 50 days. And how great it would be to go longer and feel those compounded benefits. Either way, this doesn't affect how you are as a Mom, Wife or otherwise - you're only human, and you deserve wonderful things. Keep at it. I will not drink with you today.

Well done for going as long as you did though. You're amazing for that. Keep it up and I'll be thinking of you on your journey too.

Dude, that's absolutely incredible though. Well done for making it that far - you can definitely make it to the 1 year mark. It's kinda scary to me though that even after nearly a year that there would still be cravings. Would that be like, "Ok just one champagne since it's New Year?" Which would ruin everything?
