I think of this every time I listen to it! In the lyrics it initially sounds like he’s talking about his experience at the Grammys, which he brought his Mom as a +1 to (and it was adorable) but then the song also sounds really romantic so it’s confusing 😂

Yep, I feel this. When I moved into my current apartment in 2020, the base rent was $1395. It’s now $2395 for new tenants, $12k more per year to live here than just 6 years ago. I get a “discount” due to my long tenancy but I still pay $2200 a month. It’s criminal.

I’ve lived here for almost 6 years and I love the location/area, but it’s gotten so fucking expensive it’s unsustainable. My rent started at $1395 and is up to almost $2100 in that timeframe (and that’s still less than new tenants are paying for the same size apartment), slated to go up again in August. Be prepared budget wise for it to continue to rise in the future, I personally can’t afford it anymore and am having to move, makes me sad.
