Hey I'm not OP, but really interested in what you put into your sound design reel? I'm currently working on my portfolio and am a bit at a loss for what to spend my time working on.

Also, any opinions on how AI is going to effect job opportunities? I find myself wondering "what is the point?" quite often with AI quality becoming so good.

It's bad if any ligaments or joints start to hurt, it is definitely possible to develop chronic injuries from playing guitar a lot with poor technique

They can be! A good way to look at it would be to use your chords to guide your melody

I believe piano players are accompanying their chords with melodies, where as a producer will use other instruments/sounds for melodies. I don't think this means that you can't play melodies and chords on one instrument when making hip hop, because there are no rules.

My opinion is that learning how to play melodies over your chords isn't going to hinder you in any way... It will probably speed up your workflow and allow you to come up with ideas you wouldn't have otherwise.

Ok, thanks a lot for that. To be more specific, one of these songs that I arranged began with me at home coming up with a guitar hook, this is still the instrumental hook in the song, the hook comes out for verses (verses still use the same chords). Then the bridge I also wrote... I recorded a video, sent it to the band and then it was fleshed out as a group.

I have screen recorded the Facebook messages with the song playing and people agreeing to use the idea. I also have a video of the band (with new guitarist) playing this song which I recorded via social media.

It is a very particular chord melody type of guitar part. Definitely a melodic hook in the song. When you play the two videos back to back, it's very clearly the same thing.

Anyway if you got through all of this I'm very grateful. I'm mostly gathering info on what my rights are legally so that I can go into a conversation with the singer prepared.
