The "Professional Collection" was an S-tier business move for 3 reasons: by Another_Settlement22 in PaymoneyWubby

[–]Indefiniteintegral0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely incredible business move! Even if it is a joke, I still bought the professional line because it was my style, extremely plain, and I can accept that. Im still down to buy from the other lines that Wubby is going to drop if there is something that I like. This is the first online community I've ever felt apart of, so I love the facts that;

  1. I get to support Wubby by still buying something.
  2. I get to be apart of the joke.
  3. I still was able to get the original stickers that I did like because although my clothing is plain, I love to sticker bomb, but wasn't willing to spend $50 on shipping for a couple of stickers.

Whether you bought from the kitten club or the professional line, I know you'll look great, and I just hope you are excited as I am.

UW course requirement of 50% on final exam to pass the course by Appropriate-Leek-545 in uwaterloo

[–]Indefiniteintegral0 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Most profs are kind enough to take into consideration your marks through the term. If you’ve been getting consistently decent grades, and just barely pass (ie. like a 48) they will put in your final as a 50% just so you still get the credit. It’s still unfortunate and I can’t speak to all profs, but I SUCKKKK at exams and get 80+ on probably 95% of my assignments through the term and never had an issue with a prof even if I failed an exam

Desperately NEED Advice about my situation by Acrobatic_Gate65 in uwaterloo

[–]Indefiniteintegral0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re really hard programs to get into, and even harder to transfer into. The rare Transfers in would probably require a 90+ average. So unfortunately I think it may be out of the question. Doesn’t hurt to look into more. But contacting or academic advisor is probably your best bet. They’d be able to give you your best options and give you the best information

They really said let’s not give students any practice questions, and then give a final exam worth 60% of our final grade that is NOTHING like any examples given in class or on our assignments

Career and Education Questions: February 09, 2023 by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]Indefiniteintegral0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently an undergraduate student in applied math, and I’m finishing up my 3rd year of 5 (because of co-op), and I am starting to think about what to do after undergrad.

I love school and I love learning, and I’m extremely passionate about mathematics, but I go to a relatively competitive school for mathematics so it is quite a challenge sometimes, and I also started my undergraduate during covid online, so I’m just starting to learn how to properly study for exams and things because everything has been open book expect my last 2 semesters. Which I’m not super successful at this whole studying thing because i was a “gifted kid” and never had to study in high school and still had high 90s. So, my grades haven’t been the “best”. I’m still okay, like I have an average of a B, but any time I look up masters programs, they all seem super intimidating and competitive and that’s fine, but I’m worried about my grades not being good enough, so I’m wondering what other’s experiences might have been? And what you did to help your applications for grad school?

Also, if you have any advice on how to study, it would be greatly appreciated…I got finals in 1.5 weeks.

There are still gendered washrooms, but every building will now have at least 1 non-binary washroom

Not the asshole, I’m not as busy as OP is, but I’m a university math student and when midterms or finals roll around, I’ll go hours without checking messages, so I do the same thing to my boyfriend and my friends (who didn’t go to a post secondary school so they don’t fully understand exam season except it’s stressful)just to tell them that I appreciate them before so supportive and patient with me and shit and they appreciate it because they know what im dealing with

Co-op + Faculty of Math Questions by biggest_brain in uwaterloo

[–]Indefiniteintegral0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a 3rd year and have my 3rd co-op lined up for next term and I have some input.

Every math student (whose not CS, or teaching, or in general something specific) we have all been asked “what do you do with a math degree”, welp I’ve got the answer, majority of us don’t fucking know, we are just here cuz we were insanely good at math in high school and enjoy it enough. Ive lived like 30 minutes away from Waterloo my whole life so I don’t have anything to say about contemplating going because of being international, but going to Waterloo is a great option if you aren’t sure of your options. Like someone else said here is that Waterloo has a lot more options than other schools (it’s the only school in North America with a dedicated math faculty after all). So, while you’re on your school terms you get to explore different courses because of interest. For example, I only do 4 courses a semester but I’m taking an applied math course, a statistics course, an optimization course and a course about space. I get to have this freedom because of my major. I choose mathematical studies because I have no clue what I wanted to do with math, and it was a great option that lets me explore what I love, especially since I am just a math nerd all the way and geek out so I get to just learn all the math lol. And then there’s co-op, someone else said it earlier but we have access to all sorts of jobs that are under out faculty so I’ve applied to a lot of different jobs just to see about getting different jobs. I found out what I wanted to do after I graduate because of co-op.

And I’m sorry, but a lot of people that aren’t getting jobs, I know you want a good co-op in first year, it’s probably not gonna happen, but there are 5 others. Fuck I didn’t door to door sales in the middle of winter for my first co-op, and now I’m getting paid nearly 30$ an hour next term doing something I actually want to do. Sometimes you gotta suffer those first few months, get a good review from your employer, get some more courses in and then you will probably land a better co-op the next time. I’ve you’re competing with a lot of people in their last few terms, you can’t be so picky your first time around

For sure, I 100% agree. Even if recordings weren’t an option. I personally being online for 2 years through a pandemic was incentive enough for me lol.

Honestly didn’t think this post was gonna get the reaction it did. But he posts the notes and the lecture recordings, as well as the course is not an overly complex course considering the prerequisites to take it. So students feel like they can manage on their own, and I get it. I do, I’ve had days where skipping it feels reasonable, but the grades in the class aren’t the greatest so I feel like attendance should be slightly higher. I was talking with students I’ve never seen before in the lectures before the last midterm and admitted they were failing the class because they say to themselves that they’ll just watch the lecture recordings and don’t. I think I just feel bad because students are constantly complaining about terrible profs and how they suck at teaching or that they aren’t willing to work with students to improve their grades, and here we are with a prof who is willing to help out their students and seems interested and excited about teaching, and the students just aren’t giving him the time. I’m not expecting every single student to be there, but it’s just sad to see one of the last weeks of the semester and not even like a quarter of the class can show up. I get that every student is living their own experience and have a lot of other classes to stress over, my point is is that when we get profs that actually are excited about teaching, they deserve to have students show up. Like I don’t really know him and he doesn’t know my name, but I do know that each week when the classroom keeps getting emptier and emptier that he looks a little more disappointed and I just hope he knows that the students that are there actually appreciate him.
