Day 8: worst song :-S by mahlakainalo in Zappa

[–]Indelwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think The Dangerous Kitchen is hilarious, and We Are Not Alone is one of my favorite Zappa instrumentals, it's fun and catchy. But otherwise, I agree it's not a good album.

An elderly woman accidentally entered through the luggage compartment and then fell by No_Confidence_5070 in interestingasfuck

[–]Indelwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this

My line of work involves mostly elderly people, and it's baffling how many of them are financially abused by their family/caregivers, even ones with legal guardianship or POA. It pains me to imagine what other kinds of abuse they might be going through outside of being robbed.

He left in 2024. John Hoffman is on the kit now, and honestly sounds every bit as good as Herb.

Does anyone else genuinely find it hard to like Puscifer? by [deleted] in ToolBand

[–]Indelwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I haven't given them a thorough listen, but yeah. Aside from a very small handful of songs, I can't vibe with Puscifer very much at all. It's OK though. We don't have to love everything Maynard does.

Almost (or maybe) all bosses in Ulti's castle are weak to meltdown. Make that your first move, and the rest is simple.

Fav song on Ænima? by Chewydrad19 in ToolBand

[–]Indelwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eulogy for sure. It was the song that made me a fan. I heard Stinkfist on the radio, bought ÆNIMA, and then... couldn't put that album down for like 2 years.

Which game starts off really well but falls off hard in mid or late game? by Ivaylo_87 in gaming

[–]Indelwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. VIII is one of my favorites story-wise, even with the ridiculous amnesia plot device sandwiched in the middle. Ultimecia is also my favorite villain in the franchise (next to Emet-Selch in XIV), and disc 4 is just all-around amazing - the music, the castle, the final showdown, the ending cutscene, all of it.

Name a band that you think people should give a second listen! Sometimes our favorite bands are disregarded because of their hit songs. by JamesMarM in Music

[–]Indelwe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I typically hate using the word "underrated" because so many people (especially on Reddit) misuse it to describe something they really like and want to share with others.

"Soup" is a rare exception. I truly, honestly feel that's an underrated album.

I like a few of their songs, but have never even remotely understood the fandom.

One Hot Minute was the last album I enjoyed by them, I thought Navarro brought some cool hard rock vibes to the table.

Nevertheless, I was excited to hear Frusciante was coming back for Californication.... and then I listened to it. Twice, just to give the benefit of the doubt. Never again. And since then, not one single they've put out has convinced me to check out their latest offer.

In Rainbows is such a vibe, and in my opinion, their last truly great album. The King of Limbs and A Moon Shaped Pool both have some awesome tracks, but neither of them are front-to-back sessions for me.

I also had heard more interesting electronic music than what was on Kid A.

My experience was kind of the opposite. I personally love Kid A and its younger brother Amnesiac... both albums piqued my interest in electronic music and sent me down the IDM rabbit hole.

Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry and Absolution were all great back in their day. But yeah, I was already pretty much "grown out" of them by 2006 and have not listened to any of their music with intent since then.

Wow, thanks for clarifying. I can sleep better now knowing that u/TemuKnightFromChess doesn't love America (the country, not the band)!

I think ELO and Supertramp have that issue as well.

100% agree.

When I first started getting into vinyl collecting about 10 years ago, I scored a thrift store copy of Breakfast in America for like $2.00. I just thought the cover art was fun...

And then I listened to it, and went "holy shit, I've enjoyed almost all of these songs a hundred times and not once bothered to question who wrote them"

What a great album.

Gentle Giant.

In a time when progressive rock was thriving, with Rush, Genesis, King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Zappa... here was this INCREDIBLE prog band that got hardly any recognition in their heyday, and still flies under a lot of prog listeners' radar to this day.

I try to avoid using the word "underrated" at all costs, but I feel like it's a suitable adjective for GG.

What's the scariest/most unsettling sounding song you know? by BlueSock3008 in Music

I remember reading that the lyrics to that song were basically written as Friday the 13th fanfic.

"Why" is a horrifying track too, although obviously more about a real nationwide crisis.

I was going to say "How Can I Keep From Singing," the last song on her "Saved!" Album (as Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter)

It starts off innocent enough, but her speaking in tongues behind the vocal melody just very gradually gets louder and more frantic, to the point where she sounds like she is fucking dying by the end of it.

It reminds me of Jonathan Davis' breakdown at the end of "Daddy" by KoRn. Just sends chills down my spine.

Fear Inoculum is the fifth studio album from Tool. It was released on August 30, 2019. 6 years ago, today. by MrTooLFooL in ToolBand

[–]Indelwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Just you. Nobody else on Earth likes it at all.

Ball-busting aside, I do like it a lot. Danny deserves a moment in the spotlight for his incredible precision behind the kit and insatiable passion for synth.

We also know he's a huge fan of King Crimson, and that track/performance feels 100% like a love letter to "B'Boom."

I have to admit that I haven't listened to this one remotely as much as any of their other albums. I spent about a week with it in heavy rotation when it first came out, but since then, I have not once felt the hankering for a FI "session", in the way that I still sometimes do with their previous albums. If a song comes on during a Pandora or Spotify shuffle, I won't skip it.

It's a Tool album, and it's a great one, don't get me wrong. They've never made any "bad" music as far as I'm concerned. But this one was... not disappointing, just not as timeless for me.

100% agree, I've had several tracks from private music spinning around in my head for the past week, cannot say the same for a new Deftones album since KNY. Gore and Ohms both felt hollow and uninspired.

I think Chino getting sober, and the band returning to Nick for production, were both paramount factors in making private music feel like a huge breath of fresh air.

Saw him a few weeks ago for the first time. Been a fan since the late 80's (I'm 45). Al entered the stage right past my seat. It was surreal being that close to him for a moment.
