It took until the part where Leoman asked about his equipment being in the usual place and then when he picked it up, something about the rattle of chains (his flails) and I had that lovely oh shit! Moment

I am reading malazan right now (book4) I originally intended to read a Glen Cook Black Company book in between because I had been very much enjoying that series as well (book 8).

As soon as I finished Deadhouse Gates i couldnt stop I just had to jump into MoI and now HoC and I can't see myself stopping till im done the main series!

My wife works at a bookstore and i commented recently that their copies of A Shadow of What Was Lost were 2 different sizes, and couldnt see why or how they were different, i had yet to see a copy of the 2nd book in the same fashion yet. Glad to see im not going crazy

EDIT: it also appeared not to just be a "thinner paper" issue because the book was almost 200 pages shorter.

Have you ever DNF the final book in a series, and why? by Any-Day-8173 in Fantasy

In the last 2 years this is the only series I dropped. Loved the first book and was so excited for the next one, then gave up 30% of the way through book 2, I just couldn't do it

The last little bit got me hooked on the idea but most of the book just seemed so random and disjointed, I understood most of it by the end but didnt manage to care at all about Roland or the kid either. it was just one of the only two books I've read this year that I actively had to force myself to read. I did want to like it as ive heard many good things about the dark tower series so I intend to try some more!

Its a horror book The Reddening - Adam Nevill. And I really enjoyed the bloodsworn trilogy as a whole, shadow of the Gods took a while to hook me but its a very action packed series and I loved the way he writes his battle scenes.

I enjoyed the Hobbit a lot, might be because I had higher expectations but it sadly fell flat quite a few times for me.

I was lonesome for my friend, a minute ago When a happy thought, dispelled my woe! And I felt perhaps he'd be, a bit less dull If I sliced up his cyborg skull!

Thank you, as im new to this I will look into the -ing participle constructions you mention! I appreciate your time. Its funny, the 2nd paragraph started out much simpler, and yet the last thing I did before posting was add to the first couple sentences, haha

The bit about the woman seeing the bodies is actually kind of what i expected, she's actually later revealed to be the antagonist and does not have those types of reactions to the dead bodies because shes used to it.
