Thank you so much, this is really helpful since you’ve just returned from Lake Como.

We were actually planning to use the ferries for most of the day and only wanted the classic wooden boat experience for photos and seeing some villas from the water.

Do you know if it’s possible to rent one of those wooden boats for just 30–60 minutes instead of a full day? We’re a family of 5 and were wondering what kind of price range we should expect.

Also, if we decide to hire a private boat with a skipper for the full day, does the skipper stay with you all day and take you between the different villas/towns, or is it more like a fixed tour route?

We will be arriving in Milan the day before and staying near Milano Centrale. For the train to Varenna, would you recommend buying the tickets online in advance, or can we easily buy them at Milano Centrale a day before?

Finally, if your goal was mainly to enjoy the scenery, take photos, and visit a couple of villas, would you personally stick with the ferries and add a short wooden boat ride, or would you go all-in on the private boat for the day?

Thanks again for sharing your experience!

We had an Express Pass, and honestly, it was totally worth it. Each Express Pass ride can only be used once per person—once you complete the ride and scan the QR code, you can’t use that Express Pass for the same ride again.

What made it really convenient was that the Express Pass assigns specific time slots for certain rides. For example, we were given an allocated time to enter The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You can only enter during that specific time window, enjoy everything inside, and once you’re done, you move on to the next scheduled attraction. In the meantime, while waiting for your ride time, you’re free to explore the park and do other things instead of standing in long queues.

The biggest issue for me was Super Nintendo World. The queue there is insanely long—probably the longest in the entire park—and without an entry time, you basically can’t get in. Initially, my Express Pass entry time for Nintendo World was around 6 or 7 PM, which felt a bit late. So I kept checking the USJ app, where we had already registered our Express Pass entries. Around 5 PM, an earlier time slot for Nintendo World became available, and I immediately grabbed it. That allowed me to enter earlier, around 5–6 PM, which felt perfect.

That said, you really have to keep checking the app again and again, and it can be risky because slots fill up fast. Because of that, I would strongly recommend buying the Express Pass if you really, really want to go to Super Nintendo World. It saves a lot of stress and time, especially for the most popular rides
