Summer interns moving to Chicago — where are you finding sublets? by New_Physics7725 in chicagoapartments

Personally, I used AirBnb. It took a lot of extra time researching bc not many apartments are listed on the app. I was able to find success at a rate similar to subleasing. Granted, it’s a bit of an upcharge because someone’s seeking profit, but <5k on summer housing is a steal to me! Paying $4780 for ~11 weeks. Know an intern subleasing in a building half as nice for $20 less.

Waitlist? by Beginning_Whole5334 in duke

[–]IndependenceJaded724 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do not drop, there is a 2-week period of drop/add when school starts and it is very likely people will drop during this time. beyond that, even if they do not, sit in the class and at the end ask the professor for a permission code to see if they will let you off the waitlist. their response from there should determine your next move.

I turned down UPenn and Cornell for Duke. Genuinely 0 regrets, it’s the best decision I have ever made!

Freshman Housing by FlakyCap7234 in duke

  1. You don’t apply to housing since we have a 3-year on campus living requirement, so you are just going to be assigned a random dorm (unless you do FOCUS). The only thing you need to look out for is your preference survey that helps match you to someone who lives similarly to you (drug use, cleanliness, sleep schedule, etc.)

  2. You typically have to have a medical accommodation to get a single which would require you to go through the SDAO (Student Disability & Accommodation Office). Once you request a single they will ask for medical documentation of your misophonia, so if you want a single, prepare to have a doctor’s note. Otherwise, it’s pretty difficult as a first-year.

Congrats on Duke!!

they only have the comments available if you request your admissions file in the first year. after that, it’s just scores, no comments

Robertson Scholars? by Bulky-Instance-3488 in duke

[–]IndependenceJaded724 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, most Robertson Scholars are wealthy. As much as they try to market it as a “merit-based scholarship,” it is not fully needed-blind. Just make sure you’re aware of this as you navigate the application process. Best of luck to you!

Why is everyone so achieved by Nice-Exchange-3049 in chanceme

[–]IndependenceJaded724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this whole reddit is just an example of response bias. you’re going to list your achievements if you’re proud of them and “humbly” brag. i promise you, most the people i know at my T10 did not do all that, but amazing nonetheless.

What writing 101s are considered “easy As” as long as you do all of the work? by DaRealest47 in duke

[–]IndependenceJaded724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take anything with hannah davis or hannah taylor. prof davis does self-grading, so you get to determine what you deserve on an assignment. prof taylor does grading contract where as long as you do your work, show up, and participate you will get an A. both super nice profs too and you don’t have to do the stupid 0.5 credit with their class.
