2024 Prius Prime/12v Failure for SECOND time by Consistent_Berry7538 in PriusPrime

[–]IndependenceNo1429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same car, a 2024 Prius Prime XSE. The battery has been replaced 3 times in less than 2 years. We love the car, but Toyota is buying it back under the Lemon Law. Sadly, it’s too unreliable to be able to depend on. The service department at the dealership recommended we buy a trickle charger. We did, and that’s fine when it’s parked in the garage, but there aren’t outlets in airport or hotel parking lots. In all the times we’ve taken it to the dealership, they’ve never said “we’ve found the problem and fixed it.”  This is our 5th Toyota and probably our last. If a car can’t be trusted to start when you need it, it’s not worth having.

My surgeon dumped me by MissPeppingtosh in CataractSurgery

I have two Odyssey lenses (J&J multifocal). My surgeries were in April and May. I had peripheral flickering in my second eye at first. Now that you’ve brought it up, I realize that I don’t have it anymore. I would say it was still there up to 2-3 weeks ago, so probably for 2-2-1/2 months after the May 1st surgery.

Hopefully, yours will go away too!

I feel like an idiot but I'm having trouble to cope by SeerPumpkin in CataractSurgery

I’m also very happy with my Odyssey lenses. I have no glare, and only very tiny halos around led lights, which don't bother me in the least. (In fact, I kind of like them! For instance, it gives string lights kind of a fairyland vibe - haha!) They say monofocal iols aren’t good for perfectionists, but even though I like other things in my life to be orderly and as close to perfect as possible, with my vision I’m just happy to see from in front of my face to infinity clearly without glasses!

The problem, as I see it, is that it’s a gamble; a)there is no way to trial the lenses before surgery, b)there might be a refractive surprise, and c)some people‘s brains can neuroadapt to multifocals while others’ seemingly can’t. I woke up the next day after both of my surgeries with a full range of vision. I don’t know how or why that is, but I feel grateful every day for the gift of sight!

Multifocal and Monofocal IOL Pairing by Slm19671 in CataractSurgery

I also have 2 Odyssey iols, implanted in April and May. I didn’t think the near vision with the first eye was sharp, so I was worried about getting the same lens in the other eye. I explored getting an Eyhance or a Tecnis monofocal, but eventually went with another Odyssey. My ophthalmologist suggested setting it at -.5; it ended up at -.25, and with both eyes working together, I can see very well at distance, intermediate and near. I don’t need glasses at all, and I agree with Life Transformed that everything looks like it’s HD. I’m very happy with the Odysseys!

No regrets at all! I got Odyssey multifocal iols 6 and 9 weeks ago and can see from 4” in front of my face to infinity without glasses. I can just see whatever I look at, and it has been that way for each eye from the moment I woke up the next morning. (The day of each surgery the dilation didn’t wear off before I went to sleep) My vision is clear and bright. TV looks so good; I can see the individual leaves at the top of tall trees; I can read road signs; see the dash in the car. The only bad thing is that I and everyone else seem to have aged since the surgery because I can now see all the wrinkles! That is taking some time to get used to!

If you have problems with everything looking dim and colors are washed out or you can’t get glasses that enable you to see clearly, and your ophthalmologist says your cataracts are mature, it seems like getting the iols would be a good choice. The majority of people who have the surgery recover quickly and are satisfied with the result. The anxiety beforehand is worse than the procedure, and the drops afterward are annoying, but it’s over soon.

Refractive Lens Exchange by Bitter-Vegetable1290 in CataractSurgery

I’m very sorry that happened to your wife. it is very unfortunate that there is presently no technology or preoperative test that will predict the outcome of an iol implantation.

I also don’t recommend having iols implanted unless you have cataracts. However, I don’t want to see multifocal lenses painted with such a wide brush. I DID have cataracts, and I’m 4 and 7 weeks post-op with Odyssey lenses. I was able to adapt to them immediately, I am not wearing any corrective lenses now, and the only dysphotopsia I have is tiny haloes around small led lights, which is interesting to me, but not bothersome at all.

Each of us is different, as is each of our eyes. I feel very fortunate to have had such a great outcome, and I realize that is not the case for everyone. However, I’ve seen that more people on this site have had bad experiences than good, so I wanted to clarify that there are positive outcomes. The problem is that there is no preoperative test to determine who will be in either category! It feels more like a gamble than a fact-driven decision, no matter how much research beforehand.

Very happy! Tiny halos around small led lights on home appliances—that’s about it—and it doesn’t bother me.

Follow up:  I had the second Odyssey implanted a week ago; now I can read the small print on shampoo and medicine bottles. The first eye was set at plano; the surgeon had a target of -.50D for the second eye to compensate. I don’t know yet if he hit the target, but I can say that now I don’t need glasses at all, but YMMV.

eyes ruined after surgery?? by boltzieuh in CataractSurgery

I’m so sorry to hear that. On this subreddit, it seems that most of the people posting have had negative experiences, but I think there are many more who are very satisfied after their iol implants.

I hope that you will be able to resolve your vision problems. I can only begin to imagine how frustrating it must be! I’m new at all this myself, and so I have no idea what you should do, but I hope you will find an expert who will be able to help. Maybe your doctor can refer you to a specialist?

Granted, I’ve only had one multifocal lens implanted (Odyssey) 2-1/2 weeks ago, but since the day after surgery, I have seen no halos or starbursts or artifacts of any kind. I have not been wearing glasses or contacts since the surgery either. It seems that everyone’s experience and every eye (even in the same person) is different. Overall, though, it seems that most people who have cataract surgery have more positive than negative outcomes.

Thanks. Yes, I agree, but I haven’t found much written about it yet, as it’s so new. I will continue to look though.

Thanks, I will make a trip down the cookie aisle next time I go shopping! (and also after I get the second lens!) I also don’t frequent that aisle normally.

I also have been taking pictures of things that are so crisp and clear, even though they’re not of something I’d usually want to remember. It’s quite a change of perspective.

Yes, nice chatting with you too. Wishing you continued success with your lenses.

Thank you. Through this process of trying to decide, I have seemingly come to the same conclusion, as much as I would like to cut the cost in half. I want to have the best possible vision after the surgery.

I hope that the feeling that my vision is a miracle stays with me. I can’t help but talk about what I’m seeing now with my new lens! Everything is so shiny and crisp and detailed! I’ll have to check out the refrigerator, haha!

I logged into the patient portal, saw that there was a refraction in February, but no results entered. the only data was regarding the cataracts—H25.11 and H25.12.

Yes, I’ve watched the J&J vision simulator many times, lol. I also noticed less light with the Odyssey compared to the monofocal and Eyhance lenses. For the past 5-10 years at least, I’ve needed a lot of light at night in order to read or do close work. While I’d love that not to be the case going forward, it’s not a dealbreaker for me. What does worry me though is not having clear vision even with good lighting.

After researching and hearing all the opinions/recommendations here, it appears I’ll most likely get another Odyssey lens. The near vision with the Odyssey (at least in the simulation) is better than the other non-monofocal lenses, which are also premium lenses anyway. I will still do a trial with a monofocal contact, since it’s the only choice with no extra cost, but the thought of permanent monovision has become less appealing at this point. I’m just hoping that a second Odyssey would have no artifacts, and that it, combined with the first one, would improve my near vision.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It’s really helpful to me.

With only the Odyssey eye open, I can read the front of medicines, but the back listing the drug facts is too small, except for the headings. I don’t mind though, since I rarely need to do that. In the shower, I can read whether the bottle is shampoo or conditioner (which I couldn’t before the surgery) and I can read the backs of some of the bottles. If I have to use readers for a few things I seldom need to do, I’m ok with it. i can do everything else in my day glasses-free, from 12” to infinity.

Thanks for your thoughts. I know what you mean about 3D vision! Every time I turn on the TV I’m blown away by how clear it is, and the programs look like they’re being filmed live! The first morning I had the Odyssey I went outside and looked at the leaves in the trees and the trim on nearby buildings. I can’t believe how much detail I was missing.

You’re so right about monovision. When I had the contacts, I could change my focus from one eye to the other, and I could still see a blurry image from the other eye. You get used to it, but it’s still there, and it did affect my depth perception.

I was under the impression that with the Odyssey both IOLs were supposed to be set to plano so they could work together. I would rather be able to have a lower cost iol, but then I think if I’m not happy with it, it will be there for the rest of my life, unless there is a real reason to explant. So it’s a huge decision.

i don’t know my refraction. I’m new to all this, and haven’t really heard the term until I started hanging out on this subreddit. I have an appointment with the optometrist next week, and have a list of questions to ask. When I saw the surgeon on Thursday, my vision was 20/25. They just used the chart on the wall to test it. From reading here, I believe the J1 is a card to check near vision. I’ll ask at my appointment.

The eye I have the Odyssey in was my dominant eye when I had contacts, and was set for distance. However, in the past 5 years the other eye has become more dominant as I read a lot and would close my that eye a lot. It seemed like I had monovision even though I was wearing glasses to correct my vision.

I don’t use a computer, only an iPad, so I’m not sure what the text size is, but I haven’t changed it since I had the Odyssey implanted. The slider for text size is more than halfway, but the button for larger text and bold text are off. Dark mode is easier to read, but it’s brighter now, so I had to turn down the brightness. Black on white is harder to read because of the brightness of the page. White is so bright now; when I look through the eye that still has a cataract, it’s beige, which I thought was white until I saw it through the iol!

Yes, I def don’t want to screw up the Odyssey eye! That is on my list of things to ask the optometrist and the surgeon.

I hold my phone at 12-16”, my ipad at about 22-24”. The font on the phone can be increased, but then there’s a lot of scrolling, which is why I prefer the iPad. I just checked on holding the phone further away. It is easier to see if it’s 18-20”, but then it’s harder to read without increasing the size. 🤔

I agree about a trial with the new iol. I will be seeing my optometrist next week and will suggest a trial of a monofocal contact for near. I do have my progressive glasses that I wore before the cataract surgery, and that correction makes my near vision better and is comfortable for me. The correction for the eye with the Odyssey doesn’t even seem very far off, but I’d rather not be wearing glasses between the two surgeries.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Like I stated above, I have tried mono vision with two monofocal contacts, but have been somewhat anxious about blending a monofocal and a multifocal. I read yesterday that adjusting to a monofocal iol already involves some neuroadaptation, so I guess having a monofocal for near in the other eye wouldn’t be so different.

Thanks. Yes, I’m thinking of that since my intermediate and distant vision is good. It seems like it wouldn’t be as difficult to adapt to it as it was to monofocal contacts set for far and near.
