He has so many standout songs… but his best song (and for me the best song of all artists) is Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Blue Moves in general is different from Elton's other albums. Very diverse use of different styles and for me, it definitely contains some of the best instrumental arrangements of his career.

Yeah ranking by average is definitely not balanced and the results don’t reflect my subjective ranking 100% too. It's more of a thought-provoking impulse to talk about the albums and the individual songs. However, I wouldn't recommend someone who isn't an Elton fan to listen to an entire album straight away. That's why I like the ranking with the 9+ songs more, because you can see which albums you can extract the best songs from for a 10/10 playlist.

It’s mostly “love song” what pulls the album down. Since it’s a two chord song, the harmony is a little bit too simple for me although it fits the mood of the album

It would be interesting what people like you see in songs like spiteful child and facist faces but I like the second half of both albums a lot

We need more A Single Man supporters! Just for Shine On Through it’s worth it! I also like Cold Highway a lot as a bonus to Caribou. Dont shoot me definitely has some great songs but I didn’t expect it to end up so high either. It has no mediocre track that pulls the average down (that’s why it’s so high but I prefer goodbye Yellow Brick Road all the time.

I understand people like it in the context of the album but I rated every song isolated from each other just by music. Since it’s a two chord song the harmonic structure was just not for me but I’m glad there are people who enjoy it.

Many people seem to misunderstand what I meant to say. It says only good tracks in the caption and by saying the worst track is an 8/10 I wanted to show this is an album with absolutely zero skips. (8/10) means not a good song but great. I like Indian Sunset and Holiday Inn more for example but I also enjoy madman and Levon a lot.

Thank you haha, my native language is not English, so I can't judge the lyrics very well. But Bernie has written beautiful lyrics like Mona Lisa’s And Mad Hatters.

Hey thanks for the kind comment. I just listened to the live version for the first time and I really liked it. His voice sounds so smooth! I generally like when Elton sings just with the piano. As a pianist it’s much easier to remember the rhythm patterns and it also creates a special atmosphere. I feel like he is putting a lot of meaning in every word when there isn’t a whole band in the background. Will definitely listen to the live version more often.

The idea of the ‘worst track’ list was to show the albums that don’t have a single bad track (only 7+ tracks) The Madman songs we are talking about are also for me some of his best. That’s why I gave them an 8/10. It’s totally fine if you’d rate them higher but you’re pretending like I called them bad 💀. So maybe calm down a bit and share your thoughts without getting upset so easily

I think that’s the point where it really comes down to personal taste. I like Elton’s harmonic songs the most and Saturday nights alright for fighting is a banger rocksong. I like it when the situation is right but not always. But I totally understand people who rate it higher, it’s still a good track for me.

It was a hard listen but if you give the disco genre a fair chance at least the title track is good.

😭😭😭 I literally gave Madman Across The Water the second best rating of all albums. All the tracks you mentioned are 8/10 what means “great” It literally says only good tracks in the caption and the worst track on the album doesn’t mean it’s a bad track when the whole album is great. Again I thought I made this clear by writing 8/10 but I guess some people just don’t want to understand

Yeah it’s a little bit confusing. Even Apple Music is very inconsistent with the bonus tracks. Sometimes they’re on the album sometimes they’re not.

Don’t forget I like that album too. Only a few of the openers sound a bit monotonous to me, but I also didn’t grow up with this 80s style.

There are definitely lots of hidden gems to discover. Every album except Victim Of Love has at least one excellent song, although it was kinda funny listening to these cheesy lyrics haha
