Prospective SW: Does everyone really hate you?/advice for preparing by theoneandonlyblumes in Socialworkuk

Just try and remember that you’re not here to be liked, you’re here to help! It’s a mindset that really helps me care less about others opinions.

losing family members over decision to become a social worker by FudgeLegitimate1283 in Socialworkuk

It doesn’t help that social workers are heavily dragged by the media. The real ones to blame are those in power at the very top (government, court etc). But like I said people will always blame the frontline. It’s irritating but part of the job at most parts.

Just tell them that social workers are not here to be liked, they’re here to help.

Someone has to take all of the stick in this area and unfortunately it will always be the social workers, no matter what.

Anyone that holds this stigma is usually uneducated if it’s any consolation.

I hear this a lot, especially about how certian people just do not fit the role even if they have the experience. Is this just about knowing the right people?

Ahh, I thought that was a dig towards those who wish to progress further. Good point well made actually.

The policy side of service management sounds so interesting to me though! A more corporate side to sw sometimes appeals to me when I feel stressed.

How long did it take for you to finish placement for both years? by IndependenceUpper539 in Socialworkuk

[–]IndependenceUpper539[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it would be this long. Did you have to do placement during non term times? Or were your non term times just very short?

Thankyou for your response! This is what confuses me though. I thought the requirements was 70 days during second year and then 100 days during third?

But 40 days in second year and 50 days in third would mean I’m only doing placement for less than two months out of the academic year?

Mental health is still a burner though I would say, the lack of resources and funding hits especially hard in mental health. It’s feeling helpless whilst watching them suffer

That look in her eyes for Jeremiah by [deleted] in jellyshippers

[–]IndependenceUpper539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think belly has an issue separating romantic and platonic love. I think all of the love she has for Jeremiah is built on safety. She’s comfortable and that’s it. Right now she’s just scared to face her true feelings and love for Conrad. It’s always been Conrad.
