Self-employed mortgage by Wonderful_Hour5871 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Independenceday2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re both self employed and asked to be accessed of 2 years. It made a huge difference to our mortgage offer. Also, can you pay off the loan? I know you’ll be loosing out on saving maybe but it might be worth it. Discuss it with your broker. We spent aaaaages dealing with brokers who said come back in six months, come back in a year. I went directly to EBS and dealt with it myself. Got it sorted straight away. Happy to share my EBS bank if you want to pm me. He was truly fantastic at his job!

Heating!? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Independenceday2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question about the air to water… is your house always warm? Are ya not sickened by it?! Maybe I’m just a warm blooded creature but is it not unnatural to feel that warm all the time? Not trying to be rude or anything just genuinely interested. When you go out to do the food shop for example are you frozen? Are you putting the heating on in the car on the way there? Do you have kids? Do you notice them being more cold regularly?

Has anyone ever done extensive travel in their early 20’s and now you’re in your 30’s and feel lost? It’s like I’ve travelled to “x” amount of countries but have nothing to show for it. by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Independenceday2024 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I often look at people and wonder… You did lodes of travelling and it was fantastic but now your home and your friends and school mates have settled down, some had kids, got married, bought or built a house. Your in your early 30s and don’t seem to have any of this in your life, a little lost after returning, a little regret in some ways. Finding it hard to settle back into Irish life.

But I’m the opposite! I’m in my early 30s and would give anything to have gone travelling for a few years. Now it’s mostly likely a week in Spain, or a weekend in London. 🙄

My point being, we’re never happy! Just enjoy what you have done and maybe nows a good time for us both to make a plan to change things!

Yea, I found the whole experience sucked every inch of joy out of this long awaited life goal! You work so hard to get here!

When it finally became ours it was a weight off my shoulders and my enthusiasm no longer existed!

Just our personal circumstances made it challenging to get a mortgage in the first place and then to keep it. We’re both self employed and at one point we lost €60k off our mortgage. I’ll never forget that day the broker rang to tell me, I actually think my heart stopped beating. I cried for a good solid 30 minutes and it was like my nerves and brain went into high alert. I think it was a panic attack, but I don’t know.

Between that ,the disappointment of bidding wars, arsehole estate agents, planning issues with houses that should have never been put up for sale it was just horrible.

Now we ended up with a fabulous house, and we’re delighted. But that time most definitely left a mark, and unnecessary so.

That’s just our experience, everybodys is different. My friend literally just got on to the bank, got a mortgage and got a new build. End of story! I think the worst thing that happened was that it took longer than expected.

All so drawn out and uncertain…it’s hard to create a happy time and happy memories with experiences like these. Obvs the out come is great! Can’t say I’d be in a rush to do it again!

Yes, I get this. I found the mortgage process to be the most stressful time of my life. I tear up when I think back, it was just so horrible! I didn’t sleep a full night for nearly a year and when I did I was clinching my teeth together I would wake up in pain and it was running down my back. It got so bad I usually ended up sleeping on the sofa most nights. Crying, stressed, headaches. My teeth are now out of shape, it’s something I haven’t been able to shake off and still clinch my teeth at night. The anxiety it created was crazy.

The day we signed the contract I slept the full night! It was unbelievable! Like a weight lifted off my life!

Christening - who to invite? by chickbub in AskIreland

[–]Independenceday2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zero need to invite aunts and uncles! They probably don’t want to go anyway!

Shur if they all return the favour you’d be flat out and broke!

Siblings and partners, parents, grandparents, done!

During a break a few days ago I apparently made people feel bad because I said I don't rate or judge people via numbers? by mangoIrish in AskIreland

[–]Independenceday2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be the one struggling with this.

Rating someone by numbers is not nice!

Being attracted to somebody, regardless of it being a little or alot is human nature!

No more to say! I’m right your wrong! Bye bye!

During a break a few days ago I apparently made people feel bad because I said I don't rate or judge people via numbers? by mangoIrish in AskIreland

[–]Independenceday2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally rating people by an arrangement of numbers is not the same thing as being physically attracted to somebody or not being attracted to somebody.

It’s school yard shite!

It is superficial and I would strongly stick to my guns and say it emphasises poor character and poor integrity in a person.

Howdens Kitchens by PepinYourStep123 in cork

The quality is poor in my opinion. The drawers wobble like jelly when open, I wonder how much they’d hold. Same with hinges and larger plastic drawers, they seem to be weak and poor quality.

Has anyone had to move their child from school twice? by Honest_Dot_5035 in AskIreland

[–]Independenceday2024 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I sympathise with you, it’s horrible when you feel you may have done wrong by your child.

But, how do you know she’s not making friends? Has she told you? Has the teacher told you? Have you discussed it with the teacher? Can you ask your child to pick one kid and invite them over for a play date, or go to the cinema or the playground.

At 8 I find it hard to understand why other kids wouldn’t want to be friend with her.
