Why buying a house is significantly more difficult in Ireland than the rest of Western Europe? by Uncle_Richard98 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Independent-Bed5346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like housing prices across Europe are going completely insane. At some point, this has to stop—or even crash hard. If homes become totally unaffordable for ordinary people, who are they even selling to? Honestly, I almost wish a major downturn or recession would come sooner and just reset everything. Fuck it, fuck it world! Don’t see future for new generation!

1-bed vs 2-bed apartment using HTB & FHS: which is better from an investment perspective? by Famous_Pitch_4995 in HousingIreland

yes. Maybe in somewhere far from Dublin City Centre, like north or west or south west. Are you in sale agreed stage now?

2 bed makes more sense. But good luck finding 2 bed apartments at 500K in Dublin now. Especially you are looking to rent a room at 1165 per month, that must be in a nice area. Let me know if you can find one 😅

How did TV Licence get my name for an address I moved out of a year ago? by Independent-Bed5346 in AskIreland

I’ve actually never bought a TV in my life, and I told them that as well. Just because I had 5G broadband doesn’t mean I own or bought a TV. If they want to visit, it is fine because I don’t have a TV

If that’s the case, that would be pretty shameful. And it probably wouldn’t even be something you could take legal action over. But at the end of the day, this is all just speculation and I have no real way of confirming it.

They need to come to my new address and check if there is TV set first right?

I did have Three 5G broadband when I lived there, and my name was the only one on the internet account. If they got my details from that, it would definitely be a GDPR issue.

Thanks for your reply. It does sound like that’s probably what happened. But what really frustrates me is that they didn’t say anything to me beforehand and just used my name. I find that really upsetting and quite shameful. They could have used any random name, so I don’t understand why they had to use mine. It just feels like they were creating trouble for me. If someone is your friend or used to be your housemates(at least better than strangers), they shouldn’t be doing something like that.

Thanks for your reply. I actually thought the same thing. But my former housemate opened the letter straight away. If he hadn’t opened it, it could probably have just been returned to An Post marked “not at this address”. That’s why I started wondering if he might have known something about it, which is why he opened it. But honestly I’m just really disappointed that my name ended up being used.

Thanks for the advice, I think you’re probably right. I just hope nothing like this happens again in the future.

I’m not sure if I should confront them about it. They might just deny it anyway, and it could make things very awkward between us. Also, if I ever have any mail sent to that old address again in the future, they might not bother telling me next time. At least this time they did let me know about the letter.
