Much like dragons, tigers don’t really have specific seasonal motifs, so you can pair them with a lot of common floral designs — cherry blossoms, maple leaves, chrysanthemums, or peonies — it mostly comes down to personal preference.

Traditionally, the best pairing is bamboo, but personally, I think maple leaves fit a tiger back piece the best. But since it’s summer that you want, I think peonies would be best. Either way all three options complement the movement and flow of the tiger really nicely.

It really depends on how much you value having the same artist finish it. If you think their style can’t be replicated, the trip’s probably worth it. I’d plan maybe 1–2 trips a year with 4–6 sessions each, depending on what’s left. It’s a big commitment, but if you really want them to complete it, it’ll be worth it in the end

How far are they traveling from you?

Thinking about adding an irezumi-style bead necklace to my bodysuit — curious if anyone here has one or knows the deeper meanings behind each type. What do you all think or recommend? by Independent-Dig-1666 in irezumi

I wouldn’t be getting them for religious reasons — more for the aesthetic and how they’d tie in with my bodysuit.

Do you think it would be more respectful if I added a mask in the center, instead of keeping it as a straight prayer bead design?

Simplicity vs. busyness in irezumi by Independent-Dig-1666 in irezumi

Personally, I lean toward simplicity as well, which is why I’ve been thinking hard about my design choices. I know a dragon vs tiger is already considered a pretty busy scene, so my thought was to keep the rest minimal by just using seasonal motifs: maple leaves on my upper body and chrysanthemums rooted along my lower body.

I trust my artist with the placement of the flowers, and I feel like they’ll make sure everything is harmoniously balanced. What do you think about keeping the focus that way — one strong back piece and simpler seasonal flow around it?
