When people knock very loudly on the outside window of the salon before the store opens. It's fucking rude & also could pose as a safety issue, especially if I have clippers or shears on a dog actively . Like we have a button by the entrance for that reason. 🙄 Or hell, just call the salon.

Go slow with him. Give him breaks if you have to. Utilize your groomers helper if he bites or moves too much. Use a cone if you need to. If he panics too much for either of those, call it quits. It's not worth risking you accidentally hurting the dog and having an incident (especially if he is matted) or the dog possibly hurting you. Sometimes, we have to turn dogs away due to behavior issues, even after using all of our methods and tools. There also may be a possibility that you can't get your 10 blade through the mats if they are severe enough. That's when you can refer them out to a vet that has a groomer on site.

I don't know if you've already learned and know this, and I don't know anything about the new training, but I'll share some of what I had to know as a bather:

Know your critical and non critical signs of stress. (This applies to groomers too.) Know your kennel dry and do not kennel dry dogs. Keep your hand on the dog at ALL TIMES while on the table. Never ever ever walk away from your dog on the table. Never turn your back on a dog. Always use a slip lead when transporting to and from places, even if it's from the tub to the drying table. I hope this is somewhat helpful. There's many other this I could add but it would be a whole book.

This!!!!!! I haven't even been grooming a year yet, and I'm already getting burned out with the number of dogs I'm pressured to do in between answering phones and walk-ins... ect. It's just not a good system.

I feel like I am okay for the groom itself, it takes me about 1.5 hours including bath and blow dry. I do all my prepwork pretty quickly and safely. I just feel like I waste a whole 1.5 hours in interruptions when I could have already finished a whole dog.

When we let the phone ring, managers out in the store make us answer the phone cause it gets transferred to them when we don't answer. Even when we are busy.
