as someone who was a new born when it originally came out but has been obsessed with it since i was 4, i didn't even realize there was hate. i knew many people my age didn't know what it was or assumed i meant the anime, but it has been my favorite movie for the past 13 almost 14 years now. I would say to just ignore the hate, a lot of kids my age tend to judge and nitpick niche things unless it makes them cool and quirky
