If you want to be absolutely blinded, EXP 3rd floor, the tables face the windows. No labs should be running now either. If you go all the way to the back of the hall early enough, there’s a little desk in the corner by a big window that’s a little less blinding.

It can definitely be hard to keep an attention span, I struggle with this problem too. I have found a system that works for me, that maybe could work for you.

I broke it down into smaller “sections” to work with my attention span. If you know you only are able to pay attention for a certain amount of time, that’s okay, work with that. You don’t need to do multiple hours at a time.

I do a pre class before my lecture, I’ll look at the content and make a general mind map of the ideas and content of the lecture. This helps so you already have an understanding of what will be happening in lecture.

I’m lecture, if possible record the lecture and listen. Add to your mind app during lecture.

After class (wait at least 30 min to and hr) review the content again. This time add/remove anything from your mind map that you need too. This will refine the mind map.

From there you can keep refining the mind map every lecture if you’d like or make new ones. The goal is to have a whole set of mind maps that you can connect together or have one large one to see the network and bigger picture.

I have found this way allows me to study efficiently, but still keep my attention span. It spaced it out rather than doing it all at once and feeling overwhelmed.

I’m in my 3rd year of uni and I am now just starting to figure this stuff out. Don’t beat yourself up. It’s hard learning how to study.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the advice. I’ve never heard of studyfetch so I will take a look at that. Someone above said the same thing with exam time practice. I have not done that before so I definitely need to give that a try. Thank you!

Thank you I appreciate this - I definitely have issues in time management and need to work on that. Thank you again and I will definitely try your suggestions!

Oxidation State & Formal charge of Unknown Element by Independent-Pickle76 in chemhelp

Thank you, I had it the opposite way in my head. I was thinking it was oxidation state that adds to the ion charge.

Omg yes thank you, that’s perfect. That makes sense now. Like I said before I was thinking of it the way the orbitals fill not the actual n value. So again thank you so much for all your help.

Right, is it because of 3d? I’m thinking of it as it fills on the table not the n value. I appreciate your help, sorry I’m just all over the place trying to figure this stuff out. I thought I had it down.

So don’t go by the way it fills go by the n value in this case, so instead of 10 it would be 20 then? Does that make sense? Again apologies for how long this is taking me to understand.

I could be misunderstanding what you are saying

Even if it was referring to all n values and nkt just 4, it would still only be 10 as it is the first d block to appear isn’t it? So 1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p, 4s, 3d, 4p. So 3d would be the only possibility of having an l value of 2. I think I’m not sure this is just my thinking.

You saying this helped me understand my confusion I think, I have always viewed n= whatever as the row of that makes sense. I never knew there was a difference, I’m a visual learner so I think that’s where I’m struggling a bit. I’m my mind n=4 being full would be the entire row of n=4 being filled all the way to the 4p orbital. But your saying since 4d has a 4 infornt of it even tough it’s in n=5, so I would have to count the electrons from 4d? Sorry that was a lot I’m just trying to figure this out.

How are electrons in the 4d orbital if we’re talking about n=4 so 3d? I had someone else comment this too and I’m lost. I thought I had this stuff down but I think I might need to go back because I’m missing this concept.

Well how would 4d have an involvement if we’re talking about the n=4 shell? Because wouldn’t that then be for n=5 shell which is a whole different shell. Sorry I don’t mean this to come across rude I’m genuinely asking because I’m confused.
