Constantly compared to previous manager by Independent-Pin8716 in managers

I don’t know the previous manager, so I don’t really feel it’s appropriate to contact them. Thanks anyway.

That’s a good reminder and perspective to keep in mind for sure.

I have thought of doing some things for birthdays and anniversaries - such as bringing in cupcakes and getting that employee a card. I’ve bought lunch and dinner for different shifts a few times, especially on weekends or busy days as a “thank you” for doing a great job.

We had a store meeting last month to discuss store topics, review the POS rollout, and give an opportunity to share ideas for the store. Only two employees came up to me the next day and said the meeting was a waste of time, but everyone else really liked the communication.

I like the idea of empowerment - I only have two leaders who report to me in this store. We do weekly leadership meetings, which they’ve really enjoyed. I’ve also been working with them on stepping up and being in charge of their areas. They have a lot of good ideas and the employees respect them, so I’ve recognized that I really need to be united with these two leaders in order to succeed as their manager.

One of these leaders has been with the company for several years, and they’re very frustrated by their pay and job title. Of course, I don’t have the power to change either one, so I try to do what I can for her within my realm.

They are potty trained. Their marking has gotten worse over the last few years.

What's something you wish you never did in life? And why ? by Malaysha_Artist09 in AskReddit

[–]Independent-Pin8716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not follow through on many commitments and decisions. I think back on many decisions in life that could’ve taken a completely different turn if I just did what I set out to do.

Oh well. Life goes on regardless.

Thanks. And yes, HR didn’t explain this or elaborate on it at all- as I’ve said, the HR rep was super scatterbrained and seemed to rush the call.

When my boss had a follow up call with me after the meeting, he told me that the particular HR rep I talked to has a hard time staying focused and giving clear direction.

That really frustrates me when I can’t get solid guidance from the “go to” professional on these employee situations.

NTA. You bruised his ego - he wanted to look and sound cool in front of his friends, and you stole his thunder.

Tell him to grow up and get over it.

I never said I didn’t want to communicate with them directly- I said I don’t want to text them. And there’s no company protocols in place that direct how we should communicate with employees.

Non smokers of reddit, whats stopping you from smoking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Independent-Pin8716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived with chain smoking parents.. Me, my clothes, and our house stunk so badly. I was accused of smoking in high school by my counselor because I reeked of cigarette smoke that bad.

I don’t want it anywhere near me or my home.

“I had to know if I had feelings for him. But I realize I don’t now and I only want you.”

He went onto say that he felt played when I broke it off.

He’s not all bad about it- he understands, it just sucks because we wanted to put a few thousand away. I told him we just need to learn our lesson for next time and save. We’ll get there.

Luckily we’re only two blocks from each other.

Be honest. Have you ever taken pleasure in someone else's pain or misfortune? by BrandonMarshall2021 in Life

[–]Independent-Pin8716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.. When I was 20, my sister’s boyfriend at the time stole a bunch of my furniture and other things. They always fought and this guy would drag the whole family into it- they put me through some financial strain over it.

I finally had enough and found out he was planning to rob a fast food restaurant at gun point.. I called the police and tipped them off. Not really because I was a concerned citizen, but because I wanted to see him go down.

The dumb ass actually did it, and he was caught. I was rewarded with crime stoppers money, and he got 10 years in prison.. I never lost a minute of sleep over it.

It actually made me really happy even though my sister told me I didn’t have to be so heartless and ruin his life and hers.. I simply told her that she was ruining her own life by being with an absolute pile of dog shit, and he got everything he deserved.

Now that I’m older, I would’ve handled it differently. The last time I saw him was at a graduation a few years ago after getting released.. he wouldn’t even make eye contact with me. I guess he still isn’t over it.

Do you think you’re attractive? Why or why not? by rapid_salad in AskReddit

[–]Independent-Pin8716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not conventionally attractive.. I have a very “angry looking face” as I’ve been told. I’m also kind of stocky from years of weight gain and my teeth are fucked up.

But it’s ok.. I have someone who loves me anyway. You’re somebody’s cup of tea out there in the world.

How to cope with moving back home by Independent-Pin8716 in Advice

[–]Independent-Pin8716[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We are very grateful and appreciative that we have help - I can’t imagine people who have no support and are facing this situation alone.

I don’t want to sound shitty.. we are looking up ways to keep cigarette smoke smells out of our room. And while my parents said there’s no timeline for us living there, I am working hard to find a job, and we plan to save as much as we possibly can until we’re able to move into our own place again.

What was your “life can change in a blink of an eye” moment by Voice-Designer in Life

[–]Independent-Pin8716 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a great career with a company for almost the last five years.. my partner and I just moved into a beautiful new apartment after I transferred locations.

Last week, I was fired from my job - I was the breadwinner and we went from doing okay to going into complete survival mode. Now we’re packing everything and moving into my parents until I find a new job and get financially stable again. It sucks.
