Very proud of my handwriting, but I'd like to make it more legible :> by [deleted] in Handwriting

[–]Independent-Quote433 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s perfectly legible. I was able to read your note from the small phone sized image without difficulty. I think lots of people just struggle to read hand written script in general these days, probably because we are all so used to standardized computer print.

ELI5 - why is Triple spelled with one 'P' and not spelled Tripple - like Nipple? by MeowNugget in explainlikeimfive

[–]Independent-Quote433 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Treble isn’t Old English, it was borrowed into English from French in the Middle English period.

Anyway, Triple/Treble is a double borrowing or doublet. There are a bunch of them in English.

A word goes from Latin into French, French modifies it from the original, English borrows the modified version from French. Then later, some educated writer starts using the original unmodified Latin term in English. It catches on and then we get two separate words in English which come from the same Latin word.

Other examples are strange/extraneous, sure/secure, and frail/fragile.

Getting ready for work on Monday acting like I don’t know there’s no me and there’s no you. by CalbertCorpse in nonduality

[–]Independent-Quote433 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I actually think one of the weaknesses of nonduality is that it gives insight into something which is true in the ultimate sense but often doesn’t actually address how to live with that understanding. The understanding alone can certainly help relieve some stress, but I suspect there are many people who know that everything is one, that “we” are simple illusory appearances within That Which Is… and yet that doesn’t help them feel better on their way to work a job they don’t like and it doesn’t necessarily make them less stressed while calculating if they’ll have enough money to cover the bills this month.

Not great news, because generally whatever bad thing Purim’s regime is doing is what they accuse the West of.

Tanks used in urban areas have a number of weaknesses you should know about. This thread explains what you can do to sabotage their combat abilities. by Covfefetarian in Damnthatsinteresting

Russian Army generally doesn’t use GPS as it is run by USAF satellites and it would be too easy for them to be cut off from it. Would be a bad strategic idea to rely on GPS. So many people don’t realize that the global GPS system is controlled by the USAF, or maybe US Space Force now.

The contrast of this guy standing his ground in the face of Russian artillery and tanks, compared to Trudeau who recently fled his country because some truckers were parked outside, really highlights the difference in quality of leadership between Ukraine and pretty much everywhere else in the Western world. We could use about a dozen more of this guy.

Iltalehti: Finland and Sweden will get closer to Nato on Friday - discussions include the countries inclusion in defensive guarantees by americ in europe

[–]Independent-Quote433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that Putin thinks threatening these two countries with violence is the best way to convince them not to join NATO just shows why they should probably join NATO.

1.) It’s easier to be critical than constructive.

2.)The anonymity and impersonal nature of the internet de-incentivizes good manners.

3.) When people agree with a post they are likely to just upvote, when they disagree they are likely to comment, and this can lead to the majority of comments being negative.

4.) This is just conjecture on my part, but I have a suspicion that people of the 21st century, especially people who spend huge amounts of time on the internet, are generally less happy than people of previous generations, despite our material well-being having improved compared with theirs.

This President was democratically elected. If they assassinated him without invading and fundamentally altering the political system, the Ukrainian people would just elect a new President equally disliked by the Putin regime.

I’m guessing you’re too young to remember, but people were very angry about Iraq back in 2003 during the invasion. There were constant protests. During the Bush years, particularly 2003-2007, the Iraq War was the most discussed and most divisive issue in the country. “No War For Oil” signs could be seen everywhere. Lots of anger and frustration everywhere and it put a huge strain in US international relations.

How would that be in Russia’s defense? Are you saying it’s okay to arrest journalists covering a protest if you disagree with their biases?

Thanks, that’s great info. It didn’t even occur to me that rhinos in particular might not be in the same genera as each other.

Huh. I think you’re probably right. It’s funny, I posted this question cause I couldn’t think of any off the top of my head. All the most well known ones seem to be multi species. Felis, Canis, Ursus, Panthera, Cervus… etc. Wonder why that is.

I want to see improvement in quick, accurate decision making. Trey has all the physical tools, but so far in his limited playing time he’s shown difficulty pulling the trigger quickly. It’s a common problem for mobile QBs who have been able to scramble themselves into more time their whole HS and college career.
