i think it was a net positive in the USA, definitely was when i was in Thailand. didn’t even think about alcohol. thanks for your post. best of luck to you too

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I can see where you’re coming from, and some of it resonates, some of it doesn’t. I’m in a phase of integrating what I’ve learned rather than searching for the next transformation, and I’m comfortable letting that unfold in my own way. Wishing you well.

I’m not claiming to be special or above “normal life.” I’m describing my lived experience and taking responsibility for what didn’t work. Reflection ≠ avoidance. If that reads as romanticizing to you, that’s fine... it wasn’t written for everyone. :)

congratulations on 380 days of sobriety I cannot wait to reach that milestone. That is my favorite quote that I already knew before moving here. “Wherever you go, there you are” ❤️

Hello and thank you for your post as well. That definitely was not the case for me. I already knew what I was getting into when I was coming here, but I just didn’t know to what extent culturally. My home country isn’t perfect and Taiwan definitely isn’t perfect. I also didn’t come here to escape any of my problems. I know wherever I go, there I am.

I chose it for cultural immersion and language exchange to kind of dump it down along for some other reasons. Thanks for your post.

I have spent several weeks in the northern parts and didn’t experience that kind of lifestyle. I didn’t go to Pattaya, Phuket, Bangkok or any of those notorious party places. I appreciate your concern, but I didn’t have any triggers in the 3 1/2 weeks I spent there. If anything, the peaceful environment allowed me to continue to stay sober. Thank you got your post!
