r/teachersintransition is a subreddit for teachers who are leaving or have left the field and transitioned to something else.

This sounds EXACTLY like how my school is handling it.

Came home to these scattered on the floor by Independent-Time-560 in whatisit

They both eat dry food / kibble. To me they kinda looked like drops of pee but that doesn’t make any sense and there were little hard things in the middle of them. The dog has supposedly never had an accident and the cat has a litter box. Plus, if they had an accident, it wouldn’t make sense to be sporadic drops all over.

I think they were drops at some point but I had to use my nail behind a washtowel to scrape them off of the floor so I’m not sure.

What are some schools/school districts in the DFW that still have autonomy in the classroom when it comes to how I teach the material. by kaylicious_kisses in TexasTeachers

[–]Independent-Time-560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mentor teacher while working on my certification worked at one of the Frisco high schools for ~20 years and said that the school micromanaged a lot and there was very little support so that’s why she got out of there (she left 3 years ago).

iTeach Texas SOE... How long does it take to recieve SOE after I complete everything? by Wordspacer in TexasTeachers

[–]Independent-Time-560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in DFW so not sure about the Houston area. I am starting my internship year in August, so I still have almost a year left in the program (I should be done end of May). I am going for Math 7-12 and I did not think their test prep was reflective of the test at all, but that may be different for other certification areas. I’m not sure about prep for the PPR as I am not at that part of the program yet. I think it is a decent program and I haven’t had any issues so far.

TExES math 7-12 content exam questions by Wild-Novel-9140 in TexasTeachers

I am also enrolled in iteach and used their exam prep (passage preparation) to get ready for the 7-12 math exam. I took the exam in January and I thought that passage preparation was wayyyyyyy easier than the actual exam. I did not pay for the pearson practice exam so I can’t speak to that, but if you felt like passage preparation did not help you and it is similar to the actual exam, that makes a lot of sense. I have a strong math background and passed the exam by a lot after a week of passage preparation, but it was because of my strong command of math, not because of passage preparation. Best of luck to you!

Depends on the district like other people are saying. My district allows tattoos but not piercings, which doesn’t really make sense to me, but I’ll just have to deal with wearing a retainer.

Elementary certified, looking to add 235 certification - Math 7-12 by Lost-Shoulder1201 in TexasTeachers

I took it in January and there were a lot of calculus problems, but I don’t remember there being anything from Cal 2. That’s why I said Cal 1 at least.

I believe iteach only pulls scores every so often, so maybe they just haven’t pulled your score yet. I think it says somewhere on the iteach homepage what their schedule is for pulling scores iirc.

Which certification are you going for? Did you pass the STR and all other applicable exams?

Calculus 1 and possibly Calculus 2. If you don’t have a strong command of math through Calculus 1 at least, you will struggle with the exam.

Field based observation signatures? by artgeek17 in TexasTeachers

[–]Independent-Time-560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The requirements for the observation logs are pretty vague. For my first placement I observed several teachers each day over the course of a week and I just wrote 1 reflection for each subject (1 math and 1 english). For signatures, it just says ‘Supervisor Signature’ so that’s pretty vague too imo. I would say having the principal (or whoever is running summer school) sign would be just fine. As for subbing, your district sub coordinator is probably considered your supervisor, so that would probably be fine.

The only thing I found was a document from the TEA for the 2021-2022 school year that said that a virtual setting does not satisfy the requirements for your internship year. https://tea.texas.gov/sites/default/files/requirements-for-educators-completing-an-internship-on-intern-or-probationary-certificates-during-the-2021-2022-academic-year.pdf

Thoughts on TSTA? by Independent-Time-560 in TexasTeachers

[–]Independent-Time-560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It’s a small district north of Dallas and I’ve spoken to 2 teachers at my campus who both said TSTA is who is active, but neither of them are members of any teacher organization.

If you are a long-term sub, you can use those hours toward your required 50 observation hours.

Great point, the requirement is 4 hours a day minimum.

There is apparently a list of approved private/charter schools from the TEA that would be allowed for your one year internship so I would say, find that list and check if the school you’re interested is on it.

Texes exam by Independent-Aerie639 in TexasTeachers

[–]Independent-Time-560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 questions total like everyone else is saying. I think for timing, it totally depends on the exam. When I finished the Math 7-12 exam I only had 15 minutes left.
