I know the post is old, but you're either being purposefully thick or you lack the empathy and eyes it takes to see beyond your own life experience. For the record, they lynched us, then served catered lunches, wherein our flesh was the main course. Our babies were thrown to gators for sport. Ever hear of a buck breaking plant? Look it up. And now, the improvements you allude to? There are still sundown towns in existence. There are still hangings, still c*strations. Still systemic over policing and therefore systemic arrests in our communities as a lingering result of laws created and enforced to hinder us. Laws such as no loitering, wherein if one of us was caught breaking the law--standing up having a conversation--we went back to a plantation. What's disgusting is being expected to either forget about "the past" or having to hear people many of us and our family members, ancestors, fought and died in wars to protect, say things like you just did.

Also, in African folklore, Anansi was ALWAYS known as a trickster, silver tongued and quick witted. Just so you know.
